Accusing with no proof – this phrase refers to the practice of accusing other members of scamming on threads other than one created in the Report a Scammer section with no proof of said scam.

Ban Evasion – occurs when a banned member circumvents staff authority and rejoins the community.

TWC – this term is an acronym standing for Trade with Caution. Members of the community that are branded with this rank should be traded with cautiously. Users that have acted suspiciously, or if there is not enough proof for a ban can be given this rank.

Vouches – feedback provided by fellow users most commonly immediately following a successful trade. However, please be notified that you are NOT required to leave a vouch but, its courteous to do so and will help you get on in return!

Join Date – is a term referring to when a user registered. Using this solely as a basis for trustability is a common mistake as it demonstrates little.

Post Count – refers to the amount of posts a member has on the forum. Using this solely as a basis in determining trustability is a common mistake as it demonstrates little.

PlayerAuctions – this term has been relatively newly populously introduced to trading and actually refers to the website PlayerAuctions.com. Many members use this method as a form of payment and trading as it has immensely decreased the chances of a user being able to scam.

Thread Hijacking – this term refers to a user opening a sale for their goods or services and another user of the community attempts to redirect attention to them.

OMM – this term is an acronym standing for Official Middle Man. Members that have this rank are extremely trusted and have successfully secured countless trades; as this is their primary goal.

MM – this term is an acronym standing for Middle Man. Any member is allowed to become a middle man. Their goal is to successfully secure trades however; they are not appointed an official rank like an OMM.

Live Help- This refers to a new addition to the community. It allows members who have any unanswered questions that are Sythe related to a staff member, live. In order to use this function properly, you must click the Live Help image on the top of the forum, submit your question, and patiently wait for a moderator to join the chat room. However, please keep in mind that anyone that decides to use the Live Help as rather a function to waste staffs time or ask irrelevant questions will be infracted/banned accordingly.

    Common Scam Methods

PayPal Chargeback – This scam can happen in many ways including claiming one never received the goods, by using a hacked PayPal, or by claiming such transactions were unauthorized. To avoid such chargebacks it is generally advised for one to only accept PayPal from trusted individuals. An all too common menifestation of this scam is through untrusted users offering ridiculous amounts. When trading its important to remember that "if its too good to be true, it probably is". When one is using their own money, and generally have little intention to scam they will logically seek out cheap pricing. This logic also holds true when newcomers instantly state that they are willing to go first for virtually any amount.

TeamViewer Scam – This scam generally involves a "buyer" seeking out rich individuals. They can be enticed with a high price as a means of luring the individuals. However, the basic scam follows that they will generally ask for one to "verify" the gold by showing it to them, and via TeamViewer so they know its truly them. They then are able to disable ones input and drop, or trade their hard earned gold away.

Quick-Trade - This is less of a form of scamming and more of an attitude scammers tend to have. If someone is actively trying to push you into making a trade quickly while being adamant that you both go first as well not use an MM/OMM you should be cautious. They could be hoping that you look over details, such as them being an imposter etc or simply hoping to pressure you into acting in a manner different than you normally would. However, most commonly these actions simply result in a scammers greed and then getting anxious.

Fake Vouches - This method of tricking individuals, which usually leads to scamming is when members of the community disguise vouches not theirs to look like theirs, or simply fabricating vouches completely. This is most commonly a method of getting others to go first to them, and then scamming those individuals. Such actions are bannable.
How to spot and avoid this :
    - Open their vouch thread/link they provide you with
    - As you’re viewing the vouches, you should see the voucher’s username followed by an arrow [IMG]
    - If a vouch does NOT have this you should be wary.
    Or,
    - If the vouch does have the arrow, and once clicked on it leads to a vouch thread other than there own, or is an invalid link, you should be wary.

Impersonation – there are many forms of impersonating another however, the widely used method is to create an e-mail address similar to a legitimate trader and claim to be them.

    Example:

    Legitimate Trader’s E-mail: [email protected]
    Impersonator’s E-mail: [email protected]

The impersonator could take it even further and change his profile name to exactly match that of the impersonated. This is why it is extremely important to RIGHT CLICK on your trading partners name and verify it is correct.

Another method to stop impersonation is to ask them to pm you. Commonly, someone asked to pm you will copy and paste a portion of the conversation and send it. Obviously, an impersonator will not be able to provide such a pm and they could use any excuse. Its extremely important to remember that if a trusted individual is denying to send a pm, or is simply beating around the bush CAUTION should be taken.

    Trading Habits

Here are a list of useful trading habits that should always be used whilst trading in order to prevent any unwanted situations.

    - Always ask for a Private Message from anyone involved in the trade (OMM, trading partner, etc). This step is most important because it will verify that you are not speaking to any impersonators.
    - Always right click on anyone your trading (OMM, trading partner, etc) and verify their address matched perfectly the one they have provide on Sythe.
    - Always search your opposing traders username in the Report a Scammer section to see if he has any reports filed against him.
    - Always record the trade via screenshots or video in case if you are scammed; you can report the scammer with any and all evidence needed.
    - READ THE STICKIES IN THE REPORT A SECTION GUIDE INCASE YOU GET SCAMMED. There are endless scam reports that simply do not have enough evidence due to newcomers not knowing what evidence they need to provide. Don't let yourself be that newcomer that can't get a scammer banned!

    Report a Scammer

This section of the forum is for members who have been scammed by another to
report them with the solution of having the scammer permanently banned. However, in order to successful accomplish this, you must provide sufficient evidence (Chat Logs are not considered proof as they can be tampered with very easily to frame others). Therefore, you must take screenshots, during the trade, of the MSN window dialogue. If you would rather not take pictures of the dialogue as they can be quite time-consuming if the dialogue is incredibly long, you are allowed to take a video as well of the transaction however, you must be able to save it in YouTube compatibility mode or another well-known video software website. This will provide safety for the staff member viewing the video from any viruses. Also, before submitting the report, please make sure all the evidence can be easily read without hassle and this can cause confusion and mistakes.

    Report a Spammer

Not only is there a section for reporting scammers but, also for reporting a spammer! The procedure is actually quite simple. Above the person’s username (of the post they’ve made) there will a light-blue bar leading to the right of the forum. On the right of the bar, you will see a yellow rectangular box. Clicking this will lead you to a new page with a form leaving you to explain why you’ve decided to report this user. After you’ve completed the form, scroll downwards and click ‘Send Report’. A moderator will shortly deal infract the user + remove the post.
