Best place to buy and store crypto?

Hello, ive always used localbitcoin to buy bitcoin but i was wondering which site was best to buy all kinds of crypto and store them safely. I used coinbase app on my phone but i fount that the Fees were high or maybe there fees are normal?

Any suggestions would be great, thank you

i wouldnt recommend localbitcoins when i was buying from there the price seemed to be a bit higher better stick to coinbase. Safe to keep it in coinbase I would say maybe get an antivirus to be certain. Maybe give etoro a go.

 

coinbase/binance for buying/selling and i recommend exodus for a wallet or to be safer buy ledger/trezor.

 

My mum works in the police, her colleagues from the fraud department recommended Coinbase as one of the most secure, so many scams going on you have to be careful

 

Most secure? What makes coinbase safer than others?

Personally i use Coinbase because I was recommended by others

Personally only store in Trezor. It's a bit of a hassle but so much worth it.

 

Coinbase is the easiest, but also the worst rates and they're slow because they send out bulk payments.
I've never had a problem with Blockchain and Exodus, they've always had decent fees and quick.

Assuming you're not referring to you actually hacking it yourself, I haven't personally seen any issues and nor have people such as @Star going by the above

It really depends on your security, how much you're moving, and what wallet(s) you have accessible to you based on your region

 

Electrum is the only fully decentralised and open source wallet out there, but unfortunately it can only store bitcoin and no erc20 tokens

Others here mentioned hardware wallets suchs as ledger and trezor, which are good picks but the issue is that if the company behind them gets regulation faced upon them, then all your crypto might be frozen until you do KYC or something else regarding that matter, and same applies to exodus and trustwallet since theyre not completely open source

 

I'd be surprised if they can block hardware wallets if they get regulated. Software wallets use a protocol to connect to the hardware wallet, it can't really be blocked. Even if it were regulated worldwide, you could just use an offline device to move it.


Hardware wallet, connect to metamask or other software wallets when you want to use your crypto.

I buy on DEFI markets; using PancakeSwap on BSC network for super low transaction fees and 0.3% trading fee. (Better than Coinbase's 2% fee unless that's changed in the last 2 years).

If you get a lot of tokens (like $20k+) transfer to Ethereum network through a BSC > Ethereum bridge.

 

They would just force the companies behind the wallet to make it a requirment to do KYC and game over... but with electrum they cant do that since its not a company and fully decentralised and open source.. exodus , ledger, trezor etc etc, none of them are 100% open source

 

Yea but how do they enforce that? Hardware wallets aren't smart devices, they're offline devices. You aren't paying a license to use the product, you own it and they have no online software which requires you to authenticate with their company. Like I said before, it's a protocol used universally by the crypto world, there are no back doors to suddenly require KYC.

Updates cannot be forced on a hardware wallet, worst they can do is offer an update that would require you to KYC on their hot wallet before they let you unlock your ledger. But just don't update? You can use other hot wallets or keep a paper backup of your private keys; they can't block use of your wallets if you have the private keys.

Any mention of KYC on hardware wallets are scams trying to get your private key.

It's like saying you're forced to update your PC to newest OS for "security reasons", but your PC is never connected to the internet. Impossible.

 

Its true that it would require an update, but thats exactly how its gonna be, as soon as you open the ledger the update would launch immediately without your permission.. its a possibility because you cant withdraw from the ledger without the device, they could easily make you either update your device or not be able to use it as well.. so there are possibilities for that to happen... but electrum is completely open source, there is no need for updates and even if they were to come, they wouldnt be able to make you update it immediately

 

You can withdraw from the device if you ever made a copy of your private key, which you should in case the hardware wallet breaks.
But I'd argue electrum is still less safe because it is a hot wallet, so funds can be hacked with a keylogger/screenshare or screencontrol virus. It also only supports bitcoin.

But I would agree that an open source wallet is what you want to go with to generate your keys, 2nd to a hardware wallet.

 

You cant withdraw the funds on your ledger without the ledger device.. i have tried to insert the private key on other hot wallets to try to withdraw with no luck, its due to the nature that the ledger is cold storage, and a hot wallet is hot storage, those 2 things arent the same..

 

The difference between cold & hot storage is online or offline. It doesn't have anything to do with restriction on the wallet itself, they are the same thing, just one is kept offline to be more secure.
