Why do you think people are religious :o.

People rely on logic. It's only in human nature to be curious, especially if it's about as to where and how you (humanity) came about.

So they turn to a point of belief to satisfy that lust. Some leaders start information that might be lies and people believe it. From there, religion becomes an everyday thing and it's somewhat accepted so they jump on the band wagon.

 

One of the main things is that religion provides a map to keep you leading a morally astute existence.

How is the Jewish bible just a story? Perhaps it expresses its guidelines more subtely, even through stories, but it is just as much instructions as the Christian bible.

The old testament contains 613 commandments, not 10. There are the 10 "sunday school" commandments that you learn about but there are 603 more. Referring to the old testament as "just a story" is insulting to a whole line of people that have used it to guide their lives.

Now, as for the first part of your post freedom, morally astute is subjective. The moral thing to do is subjective to personal views. Now, it can lead you to follow common morals and ideals, but with someone who has different beliefs, it is more of a way of conforming to the common set of morals.

 

Good point; however, I believe that the "common" set of morals and ideals are what is right. A person who thinks it is morally right to - for instance - kill someone, has something chemically wrong with them. The whole guideline applies to most people -- in life there are always going to be fluctuations among species. As well, if someone is doing something seriously morally wrong, it can help highlight it.

 

It gives people someone to pray to when they lost something ect..

the question why are people religious should be restated as for the context in which you all describe, why are some people religious.

it is begging the question. You are assuming that people are in fact religious rather than what you should be prooving. look up the definition of relgious and you will find that religious is a set of basic beliefs.

some more context seems like why do people choose theism over non theism.

 

People are relgious because in most house holds, a relgion is brought in to your life at an early age by your guardian, and you believe them because, well, they're your guardian...

 

Why would they fear death?

Christians believe in a Heaven? And so, there is no real death, more of, just our earthly body.

 

I believe people are so religious because they feel that this supposed "god"can save them from the hell known as the real world.

They believe that if they follow their god they will be spared of all the drama but then they realize it isn't going to work out that way.

They use it also as an explanation of how everything happens in the world because they can't believe things just happen they think everything has to happen for a reason, that "god" made it happen..

 

People are religious because they need answers...
When you don't understand something, isn't easier to think about someone greater than you that decided everything?

 

i heard that in india its so dirty in ganges and people bath in it so the kids get extra arms and shit, and all gods in their religon got extra heads,arms,legs. maybe theese people existed but they werent more then people born with extra body parts.

Nah, that's not true.
But they do get sicknesses and infections.

 

2000+ plus years ago people were religious because they didn't have any other ways to explain whats was going on around them.

Now adays people are religious simply because they have been told to be at a young age.

 

Yeah, very few people these days are orthodox religious.. People were just raised in the religion and told to follow it. I myself don't believe in it all.

 

Because they are afraid of what comes after death, or death itself.

I'm not going to act like I'm brave or anything, ovcourse I'm curious and afriad of what happens after death.

But until that point I believe that there is evidence for my religion, and that it is the correct religion. I believe in my religion not because anyone has told me to or wanted me to, but because there is significant evidence, and a little faith, that it is real.

I believe that since the dawn of time human beings, Homo sapiens, have longed for answers for what they cannot scientifically explain or inference through probable cause. Creationism and its theories suggest a Big Bang, but that, while highly popular, is still mere skepticism. If there was a Big Bang, what was there to make the bang? Matter? No because the Big Bang is said to have made matter. So it wasn't matter, what was it?

Human beings have no answers for these things and instead turn their beliefs and assumptions to a higher power. Some form of a all-knowing, all-powerful Deity that creates life. Whether it is Jesus Christ the Lord or a Pagan god of the Earth, they all play a part in an individual's understanding of "Who we are, what we are, why we are".

Long story short; people have the need to understand the things around them. Its called wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Every human possesses it, even animals do too (curious cats, head-cocked dogs, etc.)! When we do not have the capability or the logical reasoning to explain something, we classify it as a miracle or a doing of a higher Deity or god.

There is your explaination as to why people are religious.

 

Without being offensive, I feel people are only religions because they're either scared, ignorant or indoctrinated.

 

If it was only that it wouldn't last very long.
