That coupled with the ~40% non-acceptance rate of evolution in the United States proves the death-grip that pseudo-science and Christians hold upon this society. It is a shame that so many potentially great minds are wasted.

Quite startling that 32% of Americans believe that human effort is pointless because an invisible man in the sky for which no proof exists is secretly running everything.

Reminds me of another study which was done that showed that about 40% of Americans believed that earth was less then 10,000 years old. It's simply ridiculous to argue with these types of people because they have their mind set on the existence of god.

Aren't you just one lucky bastard. I hate this country because everyone has their head in fantasyland.

I agree, I just don't understand why these people can't use reason instead of faith.

One of my favorite quotes to this part of your post

I know =( I argue with my best friend about it nearly everyday.

No invisible man in the sky has ever had any influence on my decisions.

I don't get why everyone's freaking out about this... What's wrong with people believing in this if they want to?

God Helps People Make Personal Decisions?

All you atheists are skeptics; you believe that just because someone believes in God, they are some dumb idiot redneck. This belief vs. non-belief leads to partisan thinking, with each side thinking of ways to attack the other. Yes, I know that people are opposed to religion because it suppresses "free thinking and critical scientific theories". Not true, it is only Christianity that has done this. The majority of India is religious, and the average educated Indian is actually quite smart (for example, me). I plan for my future, I attend university, study vigorously, work part-time, and believe in scientific theories. I also believe in God. What you people pass off as "probability" cannot account for everything. This quote is off Yahoo answers: "The odds for a single planet, taken at random, to be at just the right place and the right time for life, are very low". Are we so spiritually dead, that we cannot believe that some unknown force contributed to this? I am a firm believer in God, just not in religion. There's a big difference.

    Q. But Das Kapital, God is a creation of humans, not vice versa! People created this "God" concept to use as an emotional crutch, political tool, etc. So, fuck them and ATHEISM FTW!@!@

    A. How do you know you did not accept atheism to make yourself feel superior to believers? Why do you term God and ignorance together? People, wake up! The enemy here is religion, not God! PEOPLE CREATED RELIGION, to fit their own biased agendas. The very concept of GOD has been tarnished by idiots using the term as a shield for their own individual opinions. Don't accept Jesus, Allah, Yahweh if you don't want to, but do not deny God's existence just because you hate RELIGION.

God Helps People Make Personal Decisions?

Believing in it isn't the problem in my eyes, letting a "man in the sky" that you've never seen or heard influence major decisions in your life that could end up affecting any range of people is absurd. If the leader of your country based all his decisions off of a "man in the sky" rather than for the greater interest of the people, how would you feel about that?

Yes, they are. When you take into account, however, that we are one in countless trillions of other planets, and as far as we can see the vast majority of these other planets are uninhabitable wastelands, the fact that we exist isn't really that astounding.

God Helps People Make Personal Decisions?

Why do you assume that this has a negative impact on decision making?

Looking to God for help is not literally looking up at the sky and asking an invisible guy for help...

It helps you clear your mind and see things for how they really are and helps you make the right decision. And to add, one of the qualities of lucky individuals is said to be acting on intution to make decisions.

God isn't an invisible man in the sky... If you atheists are putting all your time and energy into trying to prove that there is no invisible man in the sky then you are wasting your time and energy.

God, to me, at least, is a higher force. Not a man; that is a common misconception that people have picked up from religion.

Because hoping that an invisible man will help you is a waste of time and will undermine the effectiveness of ones decision making.

That's people's common perception of what God is. I mean, look at your own avatar ffs.

    I believe in God.

He's not an invisible man, he's technically "A Spirit"

There is proof that God is around, however A lot of people choose not too accept it.

If, by proof, you mean flawed, logicless, falsifiable, non-sequitorial leaps of faith, then, yes, there are many proofs of god, and we who choose not to believe in them do so as we have brains.

It would be foolish for me to claim that I know exactly what God is, but I know for sure that it's not some bearded invisible guy in the sky. It's obvious to anyone who's not a complete moron that that's just an egocentric conception of what God was by primitive man. I believe God is some sort of energy, like a higher power.

From my experience it's the common perception of what most atheists believe religious people perceive of what God is. Show me some statistics that show it's what most religious people believe otherwise you're bullshitting.

My avatar is a picture of a bearded guy, your point exactly?
