But china is a large subject. It doesn't have the resources for it's army to be "assembled" correctly. Our country's army is far more superior to strategies and experience.

I ment countries not cartoons. :p

Granted, in the current state that China is, we would destroy them in a traditional country versus country war. Our military is designed for that, and it is what we excel at. But in the coming years, as the dollar slowly weakens due to failures in the political, economic, and social systems, we are going to be in for some grim times.

Any country with nuclear weapons should be deemed a super power as they can whipe out anyone and anything at anytime.

iran is a joke atm lol.. they talk like their big with their new nuclear weapon enhancements but theyre not really a threat. super powers atm would have to be china or japan. economically theyre more advanced than the u.s and soon enough they may be more powerfull military-wise..

To think about it, Russia has been quiet for a while. Very advanced Nuclear capabilities so if any nuclear warfare were to take place Russia could be a major problem.

    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

I personally think that the true Super Powers that once existed in the Cold War have ceased to exist. I still believe that the United States reigns as the supreme power today, but not to the scale that it once was. I personally think the world has started to balance itself back out as it once was. There will always be prominent world powers (i.e. as Spain, France, and England were in the 1200's - 1,700's and so on). I think this will actually do good for the United States, finally getting knocked down a peg and being allowed to just handle their issues internally rather than being the world police.

    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

Typical American's saying that America is the only superpower...
The UN are the superpower of the world.
There are many powerful European and South East Asian countries that have epic economy etc.
China is the main superpower, USA owes China lots of money ;)

First off, don't generalize Americans, its obnoxious to do and insulting.

Next, the UN IS NOT a superpower because it has no capability that a superpower does. The UN is not an independent country, it is a union (go figure) of several countries with a very small military force that is mainly used as a small police force.

Third, I won't go as far to say that the countries in Europe and South East Asia aren't superpowers, but a great economy does not make a superpower. And its hard to make a valid argument when you end with "etc.," it makes it seem like you ran out of examples/don't know facts.

Finally, China is not a superpower and the U.S. is not because they are completely dependent on each other. China buys U.S. bonds to keep the U.S. dollar up in value and the U.S. buys China's goods. Without China, the U.S. debt count would skyrocket even more than it is now and without the U.S. China would start losing money at a dramatic rate.

So, are there superpowers? All countries today have grown to have this interwoven dependency on each other, SOME countries have equal military capabilities, and the ones that are considered superpowers are (as mentioned) too foreign dependent, they would be crushed without other countries to trade with.

The USA if were to be called a world power would not live up to that name for long. The decrease in economic strength and lack of educational push will leave us in the dust. Japan is very strong technologically and the country is one of the healthiest in he world. China is strong because of its push for education and its large control over the united states products. Some countries will surpass the USA in future years for mainly one reason education. Americans are getting dumber and lazier and that is a true fact. Overseas children are pushed harder and in turn will be the difference. America will lose.

I don't think there is a superpower anymore. Ever since the UN every country basically has a say in everything.

If anything, I say the UN is the superpower and because everyone is apart of the UN that means everyone is a superpower, which makes it so no one is a superpower.

    Superpowers. Do They Still Exist?

China is a very interesting question. The fact is that the way they have built their economy is totally unsustainable. They are building oil and coal power plants, while those two fuels are bound to run out midway through the century. Oil, by 2050 they say. Coal will probably last a bit longer, but not by much. As well as that, it has latched itself to the US which is bound to be weakened enormously by the end of this depression. Let's face it, Obama's spending spree has to have some long term effect. His budget forecast for 2011 is not a dollar short of $3 trillion. That money doesn't exist... However as people has already pointed out, China needs the US to remain in a semi-stable state. Otherwise, where will they sell their goods? Looking at it, I'd say that both the US and China will pull each other down with them. China's main sources of energy are running out fast. Not only that, they aren't making any effort to move off them.

The EU looks promising, but I ain't buying it. Fact is, it's not united enough. The heads of state aren't willing to sacrifice enough sovereignty to make it a federation. It has no army of it's own either. Basically it's a series of treaties to prevent a 3rd world war in Europe that grew too large. Also, the fact that it doesn't have a coherent political leader means that it doesn't have much of a voice on an international scale.

Japan are getting incredibly big. All that technology they can get.

This could sound crazy, but the Japanese could possibly attack another country soon. Look at the size of there population, compared too there land size. They need extra land.

Also the Chinese. They have heaps of spare cash. I dunno what there saving for.

You should also take into account the political stability and regime. China is a dictatorship, so it's extremely dangerous; however, this doesn't mean they are a super power.
