Is It Sad To Spend Money On Virtual Goods?

    Hey guys,

Do you think it is sad to spend real life money on Runescape or any other virtual thing for that matter?

Personally I think its fine, if gaming is your hobby then I don't see whats wrong with that. I know most of you will proberly agree with me as this site focuses on this this but yeah I just wanted to see what you guys thought?

That's how I feel, but personally I'd never buy gold or an item. I just think it's cool, but I wouldn't :p I do however buy auth codes for bots cause that is worth it haha.

I think that, you can buy those bots or something, up your account and then sell it. You'll make profit. :)

Well if you look at a Habbo blackmarket, people buy about 10-20 "Thrones" (and no I didn't get my name from them :p) for $14 each. Thats well over $100. And thats a lot imo for a virtual game..

    Consider.

Is it sad to buy virtual items? For example, buying a maxed out pure with cash for $100?

Or is it more sad to spend the 200+ hours required to make the pure, train him, get stats, do quests, and make the money?

If you put it that way then the whole runescape community must be sad.

But still, I think that if you enjoy what you get, why not? Its no different to buying a meal in a resturaunt, at the end of it you get nothing except the memory of the taste.

Yeah but a Throne is worth alot of hc's I believe (Haven't played in a while). Its exactly the same as someone buying vast quantity's of GP.

And with Habbo I found that to even play it you gotta buy the credits off them if not buy them illegally like on Sythe, its not like Runescape where you can start from nothing.

Personally I don't have much money at the moment because of the economy so I wouldn't spend alot of Runescape but I do spend the odd 5-10-20 dollars every now and then. Like Throne said about Habbo, some people do take it to the extreme. Habbo kind of sucks though, when I played it I found it really hard to do anything unless I had the credits or items and tbh I'm not one for standing around and talking to people all day, I'd rather get into the game!

How is it sad when it is something that is for you're hobby that will make you enjoy it even more possibly? I mean honestly. That's basically saying all console owners are sad for putting money towards video games. If it's something you like and enjoy why not? Come on now..

I understand where you are coming from, The difference is Virtual and Non virtual. There is nothing stopping any of these companies closing the game right now! whereas you have your console or video game still. I don't know...I've always liked the thought of virtual trading.

Is It Sad To Spend Money On Virtual Goods?

Well as a college student, I am currently making about $22 per hour at my job. Which means I could work for 5 hours, and buy that maxed out pure for $100. The seller put countless hours into it. I get something I will use and enjoy, and spent alot less time buying it than I would have spent making it.

I agree auths retain value because you can continue to use them.
I agree with this but I would not spend over 100 for anything runescape

I dont see it as sad. Sad is putting all the time in to get loads of 99's in the first place.

I have a life and work monday to friday - just playRS now and again in my free time. I cba to level up loads but want to play high level stuff. So buying a good acc or some gold isn't really an issue for me. jagex are happy enough to take money on war of legends to get ahead in the game, I dont really see this as any different.

It's the same thing as spending 100s of dollars on XBox Live Cards and games. It's not really sad, it's just something you like to do and if it means spending money on a virtual game, then so be it.

is not really rong if your rich but if your spending like $100 when your family can barley pay for the house that's messed up.

I'll tell you something that's sad. A kid spending over $700 on RuneScape gold back in 2005 when gold was like $12 a mil. Was charged on credit card without parents consent. Lol. That is what's sad.

I was the kid. I was young though and addicted..

IMO it's kind of nerdy to buy virtual items, but I'm glad people do because it benefits me ;D
