    Has Entertainment Technology Hurt Us?

I realize that this is a gaming website and is focused around technology

but has modern day entertainment technology hurt us? In to days internet and online gaming people spend more time playing and less time working. You might think this idea is crazy but here is proof:

Proof Cell Phones Have Dimmed Teenagers

Oh What Great Writers We Have Become

    More Dimming on Brains

    Texting kills people, literally.

My final thoughts are has the evolution of gaming and electronics hurt our generation?

    You Thoughts?

Yes. I fucking hate kids who sit in class and text all day and then complain and bitch that their homework is hard. It makes people fucking lazy but in the long run it will come back and slap them in the fucking face.

    Has Entertainment Technology Hurt Us?

I was going to say the same thing essentially

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Avoid_weasel_words

But I agree to an extent. I mean 70% of what we learn in school is useless, 20% will be extremely useful, and the other 10% is just random facts that will help us at trivia.

I'm joking of course, but really the lesson are so generalized and slow that I can take 20 minutes total (if that) out of a 90 minute class and still understand, because the teacher has to make sure that everyone understands before continuing. I consider myself more intelligent then the majority of my classmates.

With online games, I agree 100%. It is a complete waste of time, which is why I quit. At the end of the day when you go to sleep and are thinking about how much RSGP you made today, realize that you just added a pixelated number(s) on tom of a small image. You just spent 8 hours of your life changing one virtual number, for something that doesn't represent something real (like paypal)

Everything is good in moderation, but very few people play video games "moderately" without obsession or devoted hours.

The tem "most kids would rather play COD than go out to eat..." isn't true. Not a kid I know would rather play COD than go out, drive around, and just have fun. Good physical fun. I believe that video games are played when the addict has nothing better to do, it then grows to an obsession.

    Has Entertainment Technology Hurt Us?

It has hurt us, and it has had loads of benefits.

Some may waste their weekends on a game.

    Some waste their money texting.

Some are stalked and violated via social networking.

Some copy and paste entire projects using the internet.

Some commit and fall victim to online fraud and viruses, losing thousands to credit card scams.

What constitutes a waste of time?
I spent hundreds of hours leveling a World of Warcraft character last year that I am never going to play again, but I wouldn't call it a waste of time. I played with my good friend, and I enjoyed it a lot. It gave me a fun activity to invest time into, and I would have just been spending time on another leisure activity anyway.

I text a lot.. probably like 300-400 texts a day (I know that's not "a lot" for some, but it's a pretty good amount) and when I was in school I never texted during class. I'd rather have a good understanding of what I'm doing than distracting myself.

I wouldn't say technology has hurt us.. if people are stupid enough to waste their lives on it, that's their fault. These things were meant to entertain, and most people know their limits. People with no discipline will fuck up, whether it be with technology or not. They'd find another way to waste their time.

    Has Entertainment Technology Hurt Us?

I play video games, watch TV, sit on the internet, and text message during school, and I still keep my grades up and do fine in AP (advanced placement) classes. I also don't txt lik dis lol. Even while texting, I type correctly. I do agree that technology has somewhat dimmed a lot of my generation, but it doesn't stand for the whole of us.

I guess it has. But at the same time, where would we be without the internet?

It has its ups and downs. You look on this site, and you see people who really have no hope in fitting in with society "I scam l0lz u r gay homo, I lyke watchin vids of dead people 1337". But in the same way you see people playing Runescape for example they merchant, calculate skills, and what not. Its virtual stuff, but they are doing what many business leaders in the real world are doing.
