Need some help writing first resume

and I don't know where and how to start

If it helps I am done with high school

 

It'd help if you'd tell us what you're applying to. ^^

1. To start, download/use a Word resume template. There are many types, pick the one that you feel suits you the best. Search google if you have trouble finding these.

2. Ask yourself what achievements you have and exaggerate the shit out of them. List the important ones first, less important later.

3. Add the dates of the achievements and a brief explanation.

4. As a general rule of thumb, keep it under 2 pages.

 

The thing is I have no idea . Like Im applying to wherever but the thing is like how do I tell them up front I dont want to be a cashier, ill be anything else but that due to my extremely poor social skills.

 

I have the same problem, lol. Except... i think ill pretty much take any job right now just to kill time instead of sitting at home all day.

Mind if i leech some ideas from this thread >_<..

Open up Microsoft Word, somewhere in there are resume templates.

 

You might as well be cashier. It makes more money than being a shitty box boy and you can practice your social skills.

 

If you don't want to be a cashier just don't apply for that position? If you're planning on applying in a supermarket, when you fill out the application form, you just tick the positions you want to apply for. Some examples of these include nightfiller, sales assistant, check out, produce, deli, etc.

Like others have stated just download a resume template and be sure to keep it under 3 pages. Templates are fairly straight foward to follow, you should be fine. Also be sure to download a cover letter template. This is the letter you attach to the front of your resume to catch the hiring manager's attention. It states why you are interested in the job, why they should hire you, your experience relevent to the position, etc. Make sure you keep this letter as positive as you can, straight to the point, and 3-4 paragraphs max. A lot of hiring managers will not even look at a resume if there is no cover letter attached.

Anyway, on topic...
Whether you have social skills or not, employers are looking for people who do have them, therefore you will be required to lie
As previously stated, always use a cover letter and be sure to not a few of your attributes on there.
In the resume, have a section about yourself, then your grades, previous working experience etc. And also try to get the best References as possible, I use a family friend who is a night club manager.
Employers look for many attributes, some of which are self motivation, communcation skills, ability to work autonomously, team working skills etc.
I currently have a unit in college which is Communications and Employability Skills, so if you require any further aid gimme a shout.

What job will you be applying for? Not many people gettng their first job have to submit a resume.

Volunteer work?
You could put moderating sythe on your resume.

So on extra curicular activies is it what Im doing now or can it be from the past
and on my references if I dont know anyone since I cant put my family members do i just leave it blank?

 

Since your wrong they won't expect you to have masses of experience, but if you know what an employer is looking for apart from experience you have a good chance, as you can claim you are everything they are looking for...even if your not. As I said if you want any help writing it, thinking of what to write, or want any of my opinions on what an employer will look for just PM me.

 

If you can't find a reference use a famly friend, or maybe school teache you were close with.

I personally believe that is the first thing you should work on.
A man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression.
You can be the most outstanding individual, but if you can't share your talent with confidence; that's all out the door.

As for the resume, think back to even the smallest things you have experience with that you can be credited for,
Are you part of any active group locally/nationally? (Boy Scouts, Community Service, Military, etc?)

Create the resume as if you were grading yourself, what would YOU look for in a resume if you were to hire someone?
