Scammer Reports - Chat Logs.

Ok, for my first few trades here at Sythe I read nowhere in the buy/sell section that chat logs are not able to be used as proof in the event you get scammed.

I see alot of people getting scammed, then moderators saying 'can't use chatlogs *lock*'
Do you know how insulting that is?

I suggest some kind of sticky ontop of all the markets *READ BEFORE ANY PURCHASE* with some sort of info about safety when buying/selling, and what to note down whilst trading incase something does go wrong.

It would help alot of newbies here at Sythe and get alot more scammers banned, thus making Sythe safer.

Agreed, basically I was scammed yesterday and could only provide chat logs since I exited my MSN convo with the seller. So from what I understand, once that happens, you're screwed if they scam you. Completely frustrating because I paid $45 for nothing and the least sythe could do is ban the person from this forum. I find it sort of funny because this person was active on this forum everyday and now after I made a topic and posted in her selling thread about the scam, she hasn't posted since. Not to mention she hasn't responded to my PM.
Also, an admin or mod can't demand an answer from the seller and threaten a ban if no answer is given? Would seem logically to me. For certain cases like mine, this could work.

 

Chat logs are as good as showing us a notepad file saying so and so scammed me.

 

So Skele_Master, you would agree then? Once you close that conversation window, you are screwed?

People would just make fake chat logs with their buddies to get people banned. The reporting rules are fine how they are. Don't try fixing something that isn't broken.

 

If you were scammed, why would you exit msn without taking some screenshots? Chat logs can be easily edited like I said, it's a simple matter of right clicking and writing whatever you want on the file.

 

These can be easily edited.. these logs are stored on your computer as RTF, HTML or txt formats which are extremely easy to edit....

 

If you want to word it like that, then I suppose so. We need proof to ban someone not just logs.

 

That would be a good point if I knew I was getting scammed. In my case, I paid the person, gave them my account info, and had to go to work. I got home and found out I had been scammed. Not much I can do man..

I have a folder setup specifically for msn chat logs to be saved into.

 

The logs of the convo are saved in easily-editable xml files.

Take screenies of the convo, even if you think it went through successfully.

 

As do I. Too bad you can't use them.

 

Stickies generally warn about things relevant to a particular section - for example, in all account sales subforums, there's a "don't buy accounts" sticky. The whole market though?

We'd have to put one in the MM forum. The RS market. The WoW market. Non-virtual and other games market. Gold/Item exchange, both buying and selling. Membership sales - again, both buying and selling, plus all five account subsections, four user services sections, and guides and miscellaneous.

This is why we don't have them: it would have to go in twenty different forums, which would not only be thoroughly redundant, but would also obscure the other important stickies we have in each of those sections. If someone is scammed, the assumption is that they will go to the RaS forum to see what is required in order to make a report.

I never keep chat logs. I meant to say chat screens or msn convos.
