Groups?

So, I was looking at my profile today, and I saw this:

It made me wonder... Why is this even shown? I don't see anywhere where I can make a group, or join one.

It isn't anything big or important, I just want to know if I'm missing out on something.

Mhmm. I still wish we could upgrade to vBulletin 4 sometime soon.

Upgrading costs a reasonable amount of money. I'd prefer that the money goes towards the server and not a new version of vBulliten if the updates aren't vital.

 

I don't think the group option is enabled, but it automatically shows up in the user CP since it's an addon.

It's less of a money deal and more of a database migration issue. Whenever you upgrade an immensely large website, you risk data loss or general site errors. Sythe doesn't want to take this chance.

 

I always thought the database migration was a pain, but still possible to do, so I assumed it was a money issue.

I suppose your right though, losing a chunk of the database would be disastrous.

 

Backup the db before upgrading?

 

I always thought that was to do with the '5$ Donator' and '25$ Donator' groups.

Most likely a useless feature that isn't added on. No big deal.

 

omg i was wondering this as well, on rsbot.org we had public groups and then i go on sythe, it sais it VB but no groups

y dont u just risk the chance of lost data, the forum could use deleted posts as a lot of them are usless

 

But we could lose vital information. This isn't going to happen any time soon.

 

What can you do with these "Public Groups?"
