Should homosexuals have the right to get married?

Its true. A religious ceremony should have no legal benefits whatsoever, if church is completely separated from state. Gay couples should get the same legal benefits that straight couples have. All men are created equal? Homosexuality isn't a choice. It isn't a decision. It is a physical and mental attraction to the same gender. Its chemical, and the same as an attraction to the opposite.

I'm not confused at all. I take the firm stand that marriage is a religious ceremony. "Secular marriage" isn't marriage, even if it tries to be.

From there I draw my conclusion that in a secular state, marriage should not have any effect outside the religious setting.

Not that I oppose the idea of homosexual couples, but as I stated before, marriage has been declared by a 'living, breathing document' that it was a religious ceremony. If the religion that hosts it isn't present, then it shouldn't be done.

Kind of like someone having a party at their house, and then not being there.

 

Yet I can be married legally without a single mention of religion. Marriage is only a religious ceremony if you wish it to be.

 

Separate marriages from the government and leave them up to whatever religion/organisation to define their own sets of rules for it.

Let the government recognize unions between any number/gender/race of adults.

People get to keep their religious form of marriage if they choose, and the government recognizes anyone who chooses to join their assets for tax purposes. Problem solved.

 

No, I have never read the bible, so I don't necessarily even know for a fact that it dictates anything about gay marriage. (I'm sure it does, but I don't believe in any of the bullshit to begin with)

I just don't like the fact of man on man... It grosses me out, as I am sure it grosses out a lot of other people.
It would be fine for a gay couple to maybe hold hands and walk down the street, but when they throw some tongue and mouth into it I think they are publicizing it a bit too much.

They can get married, go for it. If they believe they are in love with one another, then so be it. Love is love. I just don't like it when love is expressed in the public because there are people who are completely against homosexuals, and they will be disgusted.

 

You not liking it is not a rational argument. I don't like most people who drive SUVs, and to be honest I don't like seeing heterosexual couples displaying too much affection in public. Yet I see no reason why a gay couple shouldn't be able to do the same as a heterosexual one.

Because the vote is yes, action will be taken on "Yes" rather than "No."

Majority of the people everywhere aren't homosexual. Why should the government make a group of gay people happy when a much larger group of heterosexual people won't be happy?
The government could give two shits about emotions, feelings, and love. They care about how the society is running and they want things to be best for everyone. If majority of the population leans one way, it is likely that the government is going to lean that way as well.

 

Your example is flawed, because you rely on the assumption that more people disapprove of gay marriage than approve. You only need to look at this very thread to see an example.

 

I am not debating about gay marriage... I am debating about them reflecting their affection in public.

I am fine with gay marriage, I voted yes. I just don't want homosexual people making out in the streets.

 

Do you also propose heterosexual people can't show affection in the street?

 

I, along with many others, get grossed out when you see man on man kissing or doing anything in public. They can go home or wherever to do it without having to publicize it. Seriously.

 

In the governments eye I believe gay's should have marital rights just as any other government recognition of a couple.

As for religious reasons that is completely up to the religion's view. Everyone has their own beliefs and if a certain religion has dis-beliefs in the practice then that's the religion's view.

The main thing here for me is that gay's get their tax right offs and their recognition, because it gives other rights too. For example if one of the two people in the gay couple get's a life threatening wound or disease you have to be family or married to be able to stay with the person in the hospital overnight and past visiting hours. Even if you yourself are not gay (like me) you still can't take away this from people. You can't just say one person can have one right, but the others can't. In reality it's a form of segregation just like there was with blacks and whites, females and males, and various other examples throughout our history. Denying them rights and public acknowledgment is just unjust and intolerant behavior.

Nobody gives two shits what you think is gross - it's completely subjective. They should have the right to, just as heterosexual couples do.

 

That's your opinion.

However, when 95% of anyone sees gay people making out anywhere in public, their reaction is going to be something like "queer!" or "fag!" or maybe abuse them. Most people think it's nasty. I don't fucking care what anyone says, to be honest, homosexuals doing their thing is sick. They just need to keep it to their houses and selves.
