SIDENOTE: This guide refers to the 5-on-5 game of basketball. Pictures will be included for examples. Quote boxes will be used as its easier to separate things using them. This follows the 5 W's format (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How, and results

I lol'd right there when you say cp3 is a good defender. That is certainly a myth just because he plays the passing lane and get steals. I won't call cp3 a good defender when he lets his man get by him easily, overated imho.

Also, this doesn't show lockdown defence, just how to defend properly. You would want to search more on arguably the best perimeter defender of all time in Scottie Pippen, watching him shut down the point guard of the opposition team making the team hard to run the offense especially it depends a lot on the point guard, is certainly a joy to watch. You would want to add in Tayshaun Prince too.

I would like to add that when the guy you are defending is trying to drive past you, do not plan your hands on him and certainly do not fall for his fake moves(stand with hand straight up and try to block when he jumps).

Suggestion: Add in lockdown defender in bigmen(see prime Ben Wallace, Kendrick Perkins is arguably good, prime Mutombo[retired] etc) defending the post is one of the more important thing because usually if the post doesn't work too well, it's hard for the opposition to be open and shoot beyond the arc.

For big its easier to play defense in the post because USUALLY your man doesn't have a decent to good mid range or long range shot. WILL add Zo though. CP3 can play good defense when he needs too^^. To be a good defender you need to know the basics, which I explained. You have to work on the basics to be a good defender.

Mutombo > Alonzo in terms of post defense by the way.

Also you must have the desire to go out there everytime knowing that the mission for that day is too lockdown the opponent; having a strong mental helps a lot.

Zo was more consistant towards the end of the career not just in his prime.

Its just a picture+brief description anyways.

If we're talking about defense here, Alonzo is in no way the same level as Mutombo.

You might want to add good defensive teams such as the 1989/2004 Detriot Pistons.
