several years meaning three. The car was actually used to race, therefore has a racing spec! I have made a decision to leave the car until i finish UNI and i'll have a talk to one of my barrister friends to see the legal issues involved.

Yep if its on your property :D My brother does the same thing for a living in the sence of car clamping. He owns more than 30 cars to his possession. He has 8 car parks, and charges £200 straight fee, and £40 everyday the person doesn't collect, people then leave it too long then the price is more than the car itself :D He just calls the DVLA gets the cars papers BAM!

if the insurance is expired you can claim it as yours as long as it's been on your property for a period of time and the owner has not been in contact with you..

this is also trespassing due to the fact that the owner just left it there for all those years and you are not in anyway able to contact the owner.

Make lots of records of trying to contact the owner therefore you can show you have made an effort to sort out the situation yourself and then when you call the police etc your only doing so because the situation is out of your hands, but be clear you would be happy to take ownership of the car :p
