First of all, why are you classifying the term God only to organized religion? You make it seem as if organized religion offers the only explanation of God. There are people who believe in God that don't do strange rituals and worship and go to church; deists, pantheists, etc.

Now if you meant only the God in the form of a white bearded guy in the sky watching over you, then I wholeheartedly agree with you. But there are many explanations of life that have God in the equation yet promote intellectual growth, better explain life, and don't require you to do strange rituals and worship.

You are only limiting yourself to two sides. And how can you classify all religions into one? They are surely very diverse in beliefs. Not every religion tries to convert people, there are many people of religion that are extremely rational.

 

Actually there is no way to tell that there is over a 99% chance that your religion is wrong. If God exists, who's to say that multiple religions aren't right? There are also many religions that can be proved to be 100% wrong. If you add atheism as a religious view, this would also mean that there is over a 99% chance that YOU are wrong.

Sanctuary, this isn't peter pan. My brother believes chocolate bars make you strong, for example. 10 other people come and also start thinking chocolate bars make you strong. The chances are of it being correct don't rise because more people follow or believe that chocolate bars make you strong.
It's the same with religion. It isn't correct because most people follow it.

 

Read deeper geek, ultimately people don't chose to follow a path they don't feel correct with. There is no right or 'wrong' religion.. it's based on your personal beliefs... in which are either indoctrinated to you.. or are developed independently in which those seek out alternatives.

Faith is subjective.. a statistic on numbers isn’t.

 

God can be anything you want him to be.

To me, 'God' isn't necessarily a sentient being, but whatever force or event started existence.

Few religions are the same, if you leave your 'faith' in a religion then you are damned to hell. As many religions worship different things, this is why there are different religions in the first place.

On topic: I am not flaming you, I'm debating you. Nowhere in the Bible says you're "damned to hell" for not being Christian. Matter of fact, different religions in the bible were ok with God, as long as they have faith and believe.

Theres a 99% chance that your religion is wrong IF each religion has exactly a 1% chance of being correct... We can safely assume that your assumption is a load of bullshit.
Personally, I believe there is a god but I HIGHLY doubt that any religion or person knows exactly who/what "god" is.
I know there are a lot of people like me in the world.
Don't claim people to be worshipping the "wrong" god when quite frankly, you can't tell people who the "right" god is...

Well, many religions stemmed from a father religion, and therefore are in a sense worshiping the same god. Also, many of those 100 religions are completely ludicrous.

 

Christianity and Islam both believe in the Old Testament. They believe Jewish people were the chosen people, but G-d 'changed his people.' Now this is my opinion-

In the Old Testament it stated that G-d appeared to the ENTIRE Jewish Nation. Both Christianity and Islam, ONE person 'claimed' that G-d appeared to him. In the Old Testament it explicitly states the G-d will be with the Jewish people FOREVER. It says this about 24 times in the Old Testament and it also says that there will be false profits that will claim to see G-d. Now bear in mind that Christianity and Islam BOTH believe in the Old Testament.
