I don't think this is normal. We had a technician from our ISP come configure our router because at the time (3 or 4 years ago) I had no idea how to configure it. I have always had really slow download speed and I just asumed that it was because of our crappy ISP. However, when I looked at this speedtest.net result and my upload was higher than my download, I had second thoughts on that. Sometimes my upload speed is double my download, and my download is never higher. Could it be that the tech that came and configured our router did something wrong?

When it comes to this kind of stuff it could be anything.

Who is your ISP, what kind of router do you use, etc etc.
    All details are useful.

It's not 56k, or at least isn't supposed to be. It's apparently supposed to have "speeds up to 100mb/s"; which is the main reason I believe it has to do with a mics-configuration of the router.

    I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router.

Your package from the ISP is up to 100mb/s? I honestly don't think so.

Nevertheless, can you please screenshot your settings in your router (it's tedious I know).

100mb/s is what it says when you are connected to the internet. That has nothing to do with ur speed.

Buy a new router...they come with new hardware + software as well. Usually its good to buy a new one every 3 years. Also buy new wires to connect the router to the computer (and the one for the wall to router)

Make sure the wire length is small...the bigger the wire, the smaller the speed (ya, its proven) That means you have to have your computer closer to the phone jack on wall.

Talk to your ISP...thats the 3rd and last option. Threaten them if its not fixed you are changing ISP xD

We ended up resolving this yesterday. I had him connect his computer directly to his modem, and his speed was still choked.

It's more than likely an ISP issue, since the wires rarely are faulty.

It also works with 192.168.0.1,and 0.0.0.0.0 it shows your ISP's connection information.
Also try moving your modem to a different jack 50% of the time it's the jack.

To reiterate, the problem was isolated. He is contacting his ISP.
