I've been away for quite a while now..

Did Jagex ever end up releasing the game, is it done, orrr what?

I heard the dropped it after a few mil euros into development. They switched to a new game design but i don't know if they kept it?

 

It's not coming out. Jagex pretty much ended the project and are working on a new game called, "Stellar Dawn."

 

Ouch.. what a shame tbh! I was looking forward to a sci-fi type browser MMORPG

It is sci-fi if I remember correctly. They said that the initial game engine did not satisfy what they were hoping for. So the new game is built from scratch with a new name.

 

Oh! Well that's good So Jagex has their seccond MMO coming eventually just not as early as they planned pretty much :laugh:

 

From what I had seen Mechscape would have sucked some major balls. It looked like low-detail of 2003 RS2 just in space and without a leveling system. They quit the project anyways.

 

News to me... Where is the announcement that they stopped production?

 

I too am wondering where people are getting this news.
I thought it was still under development.

Jagex cancelled MechScape just prior to the release of this sci-fi MMOG, with Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard saying: "It got near completion and we discovered, oops, it didn't do all of those things that we wanted it to. So we went back to the original design document and said 'let's do it again'." He says their success with RuneScape allowed them to make this admittedly "expensive" decision: "Yes, it's a luxury that we are doing well and we can afford to make the decision. I didn't make the decision lightly because it's effectively cost us tens of millions of pounds. Maybe more." Jagex will be reusing the engine and some assets from the project for an unannounced upcoming project to be released within a "meaningful time frame."
