    TDD's tri-monitor worklog.

Well, I thought it might be fun to log down for you all how I go about this.

Basically, I've had a 22" and a 19" LCD dual setup for a fairly long time, and just got given an 18" monitor for free, so I'll be making a tri-monitor setup not too long after Christmas (I'll be buying a HD5870 to perform EyeFinity).

I'm anal about things matching, especially when it comes to my computer, so I've decided to turn my three separate monitors into one large tri-monitor, which will also remove as much bezel space as possible.

I don't want to spend the extra money for a second 19", so I'm working with what I've got.

Here's my quick photoshop idea for the look:

The plan is to make the new bezel out of plexiglass or something similar, painting it, etc.

So far I've pulled apart the 18" monitor, and verified it works in the pulled apart state:

Tomorrow's duty is to measure it all up and work out the proper measurements.

I'll also be integrating all the buttons, dvi and vga ports, etc. all into the new monitor, the vga/dvi ports will all be in one hub behind the center monitor.

I can understand dual monitors, but three? Do you want to read the news, play TF2, and watch pron at the same time?

I really don't see the point of having 3 monitors. In the time it takes to look over at another monitor you could just open a new window. Better yet, you could buy a very nice, newer monitor.

I would love to do this. I have a 22" and a 19", could they link together?

Yes they can, the simplest way is to buy a video card that supports dual monitors and just hook them both up and enable dual monitors by going to properties and display, then you go to the dropdown of displays and choose the second monitor and check the box that says extend my desktop or something like that.

I had a dual setup with 2 23" screens, interesting to see someone try three screens. You should buy enough screens to do a 180 degree monitor setup and then game with that. Its pretty epic.

this seems like it would be sick... imagine doing a flight simulator or racing game with actual surrounding images!

I have 3 for work. One I do work things on, another I just browse the web, and the other I usually have a movie playing.

That's pretty damn epic. Are you going to add a high quality speaker system with it?

    Who doesn't?

But on a serious note, whenever you get it set up post a picture because I'm interested to see it :p I'm currently running a dual-monitor setup and a 36" Television... On two computers though.

    Gah! Foiled again!

There will be, as long as I get my case underneath the desk, it's all setup inside my cupboard.

    Yes.

Dual screens are totally worth it.

wouldn't be able to see the ones behind, so it'd be a waste of money :p
