Community Development Team Suggestions & Feedback

(This is just for reference to show what it looks like now)

I do not know if this was for a Pokemon event, but I saw a screenie on an old post showing the Sythe logo in Pokemon theme. Was it just for that specific event? Or did the Sythe logo change constantly? It would be a great addition if the logo could change to reflect the season/events going on.

Could we start updating this thread again? Or make one similar?

 

Host events/games/tournaments towards the “Competition Winner” rank. It does not have to be anything excessive, but enough to make it a fun competitive challenge. There are a lot of minis and ranks that seem to be out of commission, we might as well wipe the dust off them and allow people to get them.

 

Wanted to make sure that my SOTM or "Something Similar" ([Denied] Bring back SOTM or something similar) thread stays relevant and organized. It was supposed to be here in the first place anyway.

 

Sythe Poker Event where you use Sythe gold as a buy-in/gamble with

The winner gets competition winner user title, poker chip mini, prize pool, and a cash prize

 

This one sounds interesting. Would surely participate for a poker tournament.

 

We typically hold two poker tournaments each year, already.

I'm not sure how you could incorporate sythe gold into an existing poker platform and use it to gamble. Doesn't seem to add any value either, IMO.

Otherwise, we already do everything else related to that suggestion.

Disallow self-voting in community events

Reason
Community events are supposed to be fun and encourage participation. Winners are currently selected by the community which is the way it's supposed to be.
However, the chance of getting your submission nominated is significantly less for non-CDT members.

An example is the Minirank Design Contest where CDT votes on the top 10 submissions that they put forward to public voting.
80% of the nominations were submitted by CDT members:

We had 15 people participating in this event and it's discouraging to see that your submission did not make it because people vote for their own entry.
Being part of CDT should not give you an edge on the rest of the community and neither or should it be an incentive to join the team.
Therefore I suggest we disallow self-voting. If your submission is good enough it will win anyway.

Also, respect to the Community Development Team for taking their time to make events.
Please don't take this as hate. It's just a suggestion to make it more fun for everyone.

 

We handled this event's minirank selection process just as we have for ALL other minirank, picture, fashionscape, etc. contests for years. Nothing has changed.

I'm the first one on-board when it comes to fairness and ensuring events contain no bias. Can you provide any sort of evidence to back up your claim that 8/10 of these miniranks were chosen based upon CDT collusion versus each CDT member truly just picking the ones they liked best?


PS - With all of that said, as pikachu mentioned, you can suggest we revise the way event voting is handled, but you're going about it the wrong way and doing it in the wrong section. We're always open to constructive advice and suggestions.

 

It has, but I find it highly unlikely that the appealing factor was the main decider for most of the top 10.
It's not a secret that I've voted for my own stuff. I just think it's boring and would prefer if everyone voted for things that they didn't make themselves.

Really? Because this Christmas your entries all made the top 10 and you voted for all of them. Some may say it's biased but who am I to judge... I would just prefer if self-voting wasn't allowed.

I agree! Perhaps someone could move this post to the right section?

 

Oh yeah, my bad. I want to disallow both. I've seen some foul play before where people vote for their own entry and some other, just to remove the vote on the other entry if/when the score is even.

You could reason that you should be able to vote on your own because you like your own submission. But your submission will win if the community likes it the most regardless of your own vote or not. To be honest, I can only think of the advantages of implementing this suggestion. But I'm open to hearing the communities ideas as well - hopefully presented in a friendly rather than hostile manner

 

FWIW - Zora and I have had several previous conversations around disallowing self-voting in its entirety, so I do agree with you.

 

After thoughtful consideration, we have decided to make a change based upon feedback from the community. Effective immediately, a CDT member will no longer be allowed to vote for his own submission during the "top 10" round of voting.

Self voting will still be allowed by everyone during the public voting round.
