Sooo.. finals winding down and im pretty much fucked in this class unless i do all my assignments that im way late on. Never going to class pretty much makes this impossible which is why i turn to the trusty brains here at sythe.org..

Javascript.. you know it, i need it. Whoever does it for the A grade ill send them $10 through paypal. Need this to be done by Sunday at the LATEST!

Overview

This exercise introduces JavaScript coding or programming (or scripting). As with other recent assignments you may do some work for a C and get higher grades/scores for doing/learning/practicing more. Also, as with other assignments you will be placing your work on the server, updating your 021 page, and submitting an e-mail message when done. Much of the assignment is addressed in the text but you should read the descriptions/specifications below carefully—they may differ from what is done in the text.

Our syllabus suggests that it is okay to help each other on homework. Please feel free to work with classmates on the assignment. Keep in mind, however, that doing one version and then copying it is not the acceptable method of working together. Each person should be on a computer doing their own work, but giving and receiving advice when useful.
Directions & Specifications

This assignment is tiered and cumulative. You may get a minimal grade or do additional work to get a higher grade. It is mostly experiential—"additional quality" aspects will not be much of (if any) an issue.
Minimal Requirements (for a C)

The minimal (and required) element of this assignment is essentially to make a few changes to The Bean Counter page. You may start with either the radio button version or the buttons only version. You should decide which of them you wish to use, copy the source of the page, copy the CSS style sheet associated with them, and make the prescribed/desired changes, and be sure they work.

Separate price calculations in current JavaScript

The primary change you should make to the web page is to do the calculations for each drink's price separately (unless the same exact calculations are used as in cappuccino and latte). So (instead of doing a little something for espresso, something for Americano, something for latte & cappuccino, something for ... or ..., and finally do the price); get the price for one of them, then get the price for another, etc.

Change some presentation/layout

You should also change make at least three changes in the CSS that noticeably change the layout or presentation of the page. The changes should be different, e.g., changing the background color of three elements of the page will count as only one change. These changes will be made in the CSS file you make.

Add a date at the top

This involves doing something very similar to what was done in Chapter 20 of the text (p.598). Instead of placing the date inside a paragraph tag, however, you should place it in a level 2 heading tag <h2>...</h2>. It will be formatted like the phrase at the top of the page. If you wish you may insert this date after the current phrase in a level 3 heading and include new CSS in your style sheet file. This would count as one of your CSS changes.

Additional Practice/Credit Requirements

If you wish to work at more and different things you may do so and receive additional credit (a higher grade) on the assignment. If you choose to do this you will be creating a separate page similar to the Memory Bank page in Chapter 20. I suggest you start with your Bean Counter page and modify it (and, of course, copy and revise the CSS creating a new CSS file). There are a number of options for additional practice/learning and, thus, additional grade credit. They are:

HTML & CSS

Instead of copying the HTML and in-line styling used in the text, avoid using a table for non-tabular layout and use an external style sheet for presentation & layout. I recommend starting with the .html and .css pages used in the Bean Counter page. Change the CSS to make the page look similar to the one in the text. If you have questions or problems, be sure to ask.

Body mass index calculation

Incorporate the body mass index calculation into your page. You may, if you wish, only do the English measures (inches and pounds versus centimeters and kilograms. The text's version calculates whenever height or weight changes (if the other is not zero), you can do the same or include a calculate button to that the calculation only changes when that button is clicked.

Number guessing game

Similar to but different from the I'm thinking of a random number row of the Memory Bank page, this script would allow the user to choose the top end of the range for a random value, have the computer generate a random value, and allow the user to waste time guessing what it is. The system should tell the user if the guess was too high or too low. However, the user should have the opportunity to "give up" or quit guessing and have the value displayed. The system would also display the number of guesses.

Coin flipping

Again, similar to but different from the text material—supply a script that simulates flipping a coin a given number of times and counts the heads and tails produced. If you want to be really clever, keep track of the longest strings of consecutive head and tail flips.

Perhaps something else

If you have an idea for someting else to add to this page ask. It might be that it could be used in place of one of the above to gain additional credit.

This assignment is tentative. I have not yet completed it myself and some things may change as I/we do the work and find problems.

When done, transfer your web page file(s) to the server and revise your Computing Skills and Concepts page so that a new list item exists for each file you upload. Then send me an e-mail message (as described below) that allows me to access your page and the file(s).

Assignment Assessment

If you do the first part of the assignment as directed (and it works) you will receive at least a grade of C-. If the CSS changes meet the specifications and the submission requirements are met you will receive a C+.

Each of the extra activities completed can receive 1 to 3 additional points (1/3 to 1 full grade improvement) depending on:

* the HTML & CSS used is consistent with suggestions made above (useful)
* whether/how well the specifications were met (important)
* whether/how webb the scripting works (critical)

It is possible to earn more points than necessary for an A+. If that occurs points above the maximum of 16 will be divided by 2.
