Pros and Cons of US Involvement in the Middle East

Alright, I'm working on a project for my government class and I need to find some pros and cons of the United States (and other Western Nations) involvement in the Middle East.

So far, what I've come up with is

    Pros:
    • Eliminate as many WMDs as possible
    • Refusal to meet UN demands
    • Israel would be alone
    • A breeding ground for terrorists
    Cons:
    • Iraq poses no threat to the United States
    • Progress is slow and easily undone
    • Making more enemies than allies
    • More hard than good
      • (Pre and Post Saddam era)

So basically, I just need a few more ideas so I figured I'd strike up a discussion here to see what people think.

    Thanks.

Its funny after the countless years we have been in iraq and no WMD's have been found. It was a shame when president bush himself announced this failure of a war. Also terrorist, dont give a shit about hurting us if we would just leave their home countrys alone. Why cant we admit this was a war for oil and that all we are doing now is taking innocent lives for pompous and greedy rich people who benefit off this.

Surprisingly, there's actually a great deal of Iraqi Citizens who cannot choose whether they're with their government or not with their government.

The US Administration is trying to push through a system where they will pay these un-decided to join up and co-operate with them to help revitalize their country/cities.

Oh yes, I'm an idiot. I was starting a discussion. I was presenting my ideas I've had thus far. Good fight. Enjoy the three infractions come your way.

Also, for your reference: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=490925. What is that? Oh yeah, homework help.

I personally think that there were WMD's in Iraq, but when you threaten someone with invasion for months, they can logically move the nukes to another country.

Bush blames the war of bad intelligence. Bush had solid evidence that the terrorists America wanted to hunt down were in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, but he went on the bad intelligence that was presented to him based on Iraq. Iraq was no threat to us, we just got done smacking them up a little over a decade ago. I think the war just speaks volumes on how an ignorant mass can be deceived.

The main reason for the trust\distrust in the proposed system is simply because of Islamic ties in the area (similar to trying to force an ideal Islamic government on America or a Western Nation) as well as the security threat. It's easy to sit here and say, our way is right they need to go out there and vote. The only problem is terrorists and insurgents are simply targeting those who voted and those who are running for these elected offices.

I honestly don't ever seeing a Western power imperialising (maybe not the best word choice) a Islamic Middle-Eastern nation. You can take the rift that Christians have with Islams and compare it to something like the Russians and the United States in the Cold War. Neither side is going to give into the other side, it's simply who can hold out longer (easier as the defensive side).

I present Thursday on this issue. I think I'll tear it up, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Terrorism - n. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.

By invading another country and setting up military bases there, busting into houses, blowing up schools etc, that pretty much makes us the biggest terrorists in the world.

It's just the "New Vietnam War."
    There was never any WMD.
It's all one huge scam to destroy the bill of rights.
