When will Mars be Colonized?

Never, unless there is some change in science that makes it worth the financial cost and the resources.

 

We have the ability to don't we. Can't we use nuclear boosts or something that was theorized by a scientist? That said we can use an explosion to boost the space object to its path.

 

Well, i know NASA planned to fly a spaceship Into mars, as they couldnt afford to fly someone there.

China is flying ahead in technology, money. and are looking for ways to sustain human life as we burn too much energy these days...


China will win.

 

personally i think we will die someway catastrophically before we can colonize a foreign planet, and mars can be colonized by aliens.

 

Pointless... Unless your goal is to raise a generation of scientists.

 

It was said in "TIME" magazine, that colonization would begin in 2040's.

I think it's pretty fascinating, if a global pandemic spreads, or Nuclear war begins, it would be our only safehouse.

I've read an article on CNN saying that NASA launched a missle into the Moon and blow up a part of it to study the debre for water/ice.

As far as Mars goes, I don't think we're even close to maintaining some kind of life on it. They would have to build a sphere, with titanium reinforced bars that would cling onto Mars without having it mess up or something along those lines, probably costing billions.

No, but today it is very possible to colonize it, while just 50 years ago no one had been there yet.

 

Only problem is the Chinese are working on an advanced space program and they are running out of population room, they will be the people more concerned with colonizing mars. Good thread.

 

IMO I don't think they will ever get it to be colonized, if by some miracle they do make it manageable to live on it would be far to costly to move enough people to actually start an economy. Think about how much one space shuttle expedition costs, then times it by like 100000.

 

Never, because they never even went to the moon, it's so obvious. If they actually did go to the moon, people would be going back there and stuff.

 

There's a few issues with colonizing mars.

1. Air. There's no air on mars. Mars has an average atmospheric pressure of about 0.6 kPa (Pa being Pascals, a measurement unit) while Earth has an average 101.3 kPa. One way it could be solved is to start growing plants due to the 95% carbon dioxide atmosphere, but this would be a very slow slow slow process.

2. As previously stated, the atmosphere is very thin, and so Mars is essentially a vacuum compared to our atmosphere. If we were to produce our own air, we'd have to have a completely contained way of living and mode of transportation. We'd have to perfectly seal everything, and any breach would be disastrous for everyone.

3. Food. We'd have to either grow our own food, and we'd likely have to resort to eating primarily plants. Otherwise, we could have food shipped in from Earth, but it would become disgustingly expensive.

So it's probably pretty far in the future, and won't become very affordable for another 100-150 years as far as I see it.

 

Why would they go back there? There is nothing to gain from going to the moon, other than bragging rights.

There is no contradiction. Capability to do something doesn't mean it's beneficial to do it.
