My sister plans on getting a laptop for herself also. Myself and her would be connecting to the internet at the same time most of the day via our Netgear Wireless G, which is receiving internet from our (internet that's drilled into the wall? DSL/LAN? Yes I did tell you I was retarded at computers).

Would I still get good speeds on my laptop?

    Thanks.

I've never liked laptops for gaming, but you could run CS:S for sure on that.

Same, but it'd take up much less space and is good for a poor man such as myself.

yeah you can play games such as fable and css of course, wow and stuff. maybe cod 4 on reduced settings. and yes your internet will be fine, if you dont care for gaming, get a laptop, but for the price youll end up paying for that you could get a decent desktop that can run most games released today.

Laptops cost considerably more than desktops.

They are bulkier, but if you are looking to save money on performance, go with a desktop.

Your internet will be fine, and you shouldn't have issues with games.

Every laptop I've ever owned got extremely hot, so invest in a cooling stand to protect from heat.
    Also get the extended warranty!

I don't know what everyone's giving shit about not buying a laptop.

That being said, here's what I think you should change about it.
    - 4GB RAM instead of three. You'll regret it in the future if you don't.
    - 250GB Hard Drive 7200RPM. It'll go faster, and you'll have space for future use.
    - Windows 7 instead of Vista. It's a lot more efficient. Be sure to get at least the professional so you can run the Windows XP Emulator.
    - Kick up the processor speed a bit if it's not too costly.

You should be able to run most games fairly well, but for the high-end games you'll need a better processor. Your graphics card should be able to run all the games in existence but not necessarily on max settings.

As for the internet, it depends on the connection speed. Let's say you're playing counter strike, and your sister is browsing the web, you should be fine. Now let's say she's watching a movie online or downloading a big file at max speed, you're fucked. Your ping would be around 600+ and you wouldn't be to aim worth shit. I know this from experience because I share my internet with my sister and my dad, and they watch a lot of videos online.

Now what you can do is, get an Ethernet cable and hook it up to your modem, right? Then if you're lucky, your modem settings will have an option to make the wireless speed real real slow. This way you can screw your sister over and hog all the speed to yourself.
