Should homosexuals have the right to get married?

What is a marriage anyway? A contract that states that the government acknowledges their marriage? If they love each other as much as they claim they do, they don't need a marriage to complete them.

On another point, I believe that they should not have the right to adopt children, merely because the child may be taunted throughout his life for having homosexual parents. This is not the individuals fault, it is the society as a whole. Potentially in the future, if homosexuality is more widely accepted, my views will have changed.

 

That shouldn't be a factor in this. The thing I can't get over is this: do you honestly think that growing up in a State-Run orphanage is better? I don't see why you would stop children from being adopted by potentially loving families because there's a chance they'll get 'teased'.

If that is applied universally, then that leaves out alot of people. My six year old cousin, who is not adopted, recently got teased because her parents are both overweight. Still, I think that she would never trade her parents love, huge house, and endless opportunities to go to a State-Run orphanage.

So yeah, if you can stop gays from adopting, where does the line end? Should my overweight cousins give up her daughter? Should Little People be prevented from adopting? Should only white, reasonably shaped, strait couples be allowed to adopt? I don't think so.

 

People are always going to make a fuss about a differences. Race, Religion, Sexuality. Honestly sexuality is such a personal thing, and denying your sexuality is incredibly unhealthy. To deny yourself acceptance means that you have to hate yourself, which again is terrible bad for your self esteem and mental health.

Yes they should be, there is nothing wrong, what do they contribute to that is so evil, they don't hurt you they don't even bother you, so just leave them alone, Jesus.

Just because the bible or people think other things everyone is entitled to there own rights and opinions.

 

Marriage is a religious doctrine between a male and a female.

You can not have marriage with out religion. This is what marriage was made for.

Also isn't earths population a little too high? if 1/4 of everyone decided to be gay and didn't reproduce, there would be less hunger, crowding etc

I'm not really against and I'm not really for it but if two people the same gender love each other why not? The only thing that can't do is make a baby with their dna. The only thing that would be weird for people to see is gays on the streets I guess and gay people are really nice actually.

 

I think it's a bit insulting to ask them to "Call it something different". Obviously the financial benefits afforded by the government is one upside of being married, but, if the government doesn't allow them to officially call it marriage, then the government is creating an obvious division between homosexuals and hetero's... Legal discrimination much? Plus, the principle of the question is avoided if they have to "make up their own thing"... I think it should be a definitive yes, and the bible argument is bs... since when are we still bound by the bible's definition of marriage?

 

There's nothing wrong with being gay, but isn't it a sin in most religions to be 'Gay' Why bother marry anyway.

Im athiest, in no rush to marry. I just thought it was kinda contradictuary that Gay people have rights/should have to marry.

It doesnt bother me if they do marry though.

 

I think they should scrap the link between marriage and social benefits altogether. Make it possible for people to register their partnership no matter if they're married or not. This should be open to everyone.

That way the church could keep marriage the way they like it, since it would only be symbolic and have no monetary value.

 

Before the Civil Rights movement, there were "white only" and "black only" restaurants/bathrooms/etc... Assuming that they were equally good in quality(which they probably weren't), is that ok by your definition. I mean, there is no denying that there is a difference in skin color, but should we make people "choose a different" restaurant. All I'm saying is that by asking them to have their own version of marriage, we are denying them access to the more commonly accepted version. It is basically ignoring the main question, and coming up with a sub-par quick fix to the issue.

In regards to the definition of a marriage, I suppose I can't argue with you on that, except that I don't see why a definition can't be fluid to meet the needs of a modern society. Additionally, is marriage really a Christian concept?

 

It doesn't affect me, since I'm not gay, and as long as it doesn't affect me in any way why not let them get married...

 

Yeah, it doesn't affect the happiness of anyone else, and it can only be beneficial, so what is the harm. The only thing keeping it outlawed is an outdated mindset. The only argument that I see, is that it devalues the idea of marriage, but that sounds like bs to me...

 

There is a lot of married straight couples that thinks this lessens the importance of their marriage. I can understand that.

I still think a real separation of religion and state is the best way to go.

Let's talk about Christian marriage since that's the one taken up most of the time. A marriage is a religious commitment between two people. The Bible condemns homosexuality (yes it does, I'm tired of quoting it), so obviously this is not meant for gays to enjoy.

It's all there in the "good" book, if you bother to read up on it.

How do I know that's true? Because the Bible sets the standard for religious ceremonies, and the Bible says no.

 

I agree'd because why should it matter? It doesn't effect me, might as well if your in this life time be happy so do whatever you want to make your time worthy on this earth..
