Runescape Hyper inflation

I'm pretty sure not many has brought up this topic, but now I'll address it.

Ever wondered why Abyssal Whips went from 1.8M back in March to almost 3.8M now? Same as AGS and several other items?

This is the current hyper inflation we're currently experiencing in the RuneScape markets.

What does hyper inflation mean? It simply means that hoards of cash are used to buy a single item, thus basically devaluing the Runescape GP.

Now why did this happen?
I'll point out a few points, I'm pretty sure I'm close or dead on the point.


1. Introduction of PVP worlds.
Now almost with every good drop, you get an ancient item that you can exchange for a decent amount of cash. Now what this does is it brings in loads of money without being backed with goods. Remember, money is money, but without items or resources to back it up, money is nothing. By exchanging the ancient item to those NPCs that will give you cash, people are adding huge amounts of cash into the game on a daily basis (probably more than 100M per day).

2. Removal of protection prayer in pvp worlds.
Because of the removal, players are hesistant to bring their good weapons into the worlds. However, a good amount of players still risk their goods (whips, godswords and etc) into these worlds. But without protection prayer, their whips, godswords are lost on a constant basis. Therefore, these items are being depleted while at the same time, people are exchanging those ancient items for pure cash, causing the prices of these items to go up significantly. I have bought a whip at 3.5M and now it's at 3.8M.

3. Merchant clans
You talked about them, he talked about them, we all did. I'll go short on this one. What they do is buy ALL of a single item that looks like'll go up in price. Then once the item's reached its peak, they dump all of them, MAKING people buy it for more. This raises all the items that they merch., which is an addition to our current hyper inflated RS economy.

4. Rich/poor gap
Now, most of the players who are attempting the previous 3 are usually high leveled players or players with huge amount of money to spend. Because they will use the previous 3 methods to earn money, they are basically trapping the newer players or players that don't quite have a lot of money to spend. What this does is create an unevenness of wealth distribution. The rich high leveled players can get access to almost anything and will get even richer, while the poor can not do anything. Therefore, there's only a select few that have all the riches. And since the select few rich players are VERY rich, they have the power to control the economy in their favor and thus, increase the prices even more for their own benefits. This is another cause of hyper inflation in RS economy.





Sadly, there's really nothing any of us can do about this. Since it's Jagex's game, they will eventually figure out a way to combat this.

Jagex is just slowly fucking there game up more and more and more... Most items I see now are so far off what they used to be before the GE when the economy stabilized its self. Its gay.

 

With every "solution" JaGeX has, another problem is created and they can't seem to break out of the cycle.

Yea I think the main problem like you said is the fact that you can exchange the pvp drops to an npc for cash. HUGE PROBLEM!

TBH: What do you guys think would happen if agex just brought back all wildy and took out the random drop shit! It would bring back RWTING but honestly atleast the economy was stable back than....

 

It's all because of merchers and 76k trickers. This needs to stop, or at least put a limit to 76king

I sold my sgs and tried to buy other things but everything else went up as well so it was pointless..and when I tried getting it back it was worth even more... :'(

 

I totally agree with you, thank you for drawing it all out simply for us. A great of example of the skying prices is to go to the discontinued forums on runescape. Check out the prices people are selling partyhats for. They are selling them for like 200-400mil over ge price with junk etc.

 

Yes, many people who are trying to sell rares are only taking junks that will rise in value. Pure cash is almost gone for discontinued items unlike last year.

 

Rich bastards, I wish I can afford even one. >.<

But yeah, this sucks ass, Jagex needs to do something.

Jagex are at least somehow trying to stop 76k tricks. A few days ago they patched afk(even if in combat ; even if spinning screen)
but those bastards could do something better..

 

To much money in the game, they should just bring back the crators..... rwt was possible but not easy, amd atleast the economy was stabke :love:

 

this is completely true... im unfortunately one of the poor players and im trying to get out of it =(
