pking on a laptop.

I used to pk with a trackpoint, which is, in my opinion, even better than a touchpad. Usb mouse still owns everything, though.

mac laptops are really un-sensitive, so it takes ages to get from 1 side to the other

Use a wireless mouse.
You can place it on the right side of the laptop, beneath the d pad.
Use your index and middle fingers to click, and your ring and pinky fingers to rotate the camera. Its pretty easy to do and I used to pk like this all the time.

A computer is far easier to pk with, IMO.
