Maslow's theory on life and self realization, the meaning/way of life?

Ok, so in college we were talking about this and it intrested me.

In my opinion this is 'life in a triangle'



It shows us the way to self realization, as you can see we start at the bottom with basic needs of survival and the needs grow streadily less nessecery until we reach the top which is the peak of life and everything is perfect for the individual experianceing self realisation.

What do you think about this?​

 

I think the bottom two should be switched around. When you're being chased by a killer you're not going to be thinking about how hungry you are... your thinking "GTFO".

Hmm I think its a very general plotting of that we priorities things by, though I think some of these motives are higher/lower on the triangle according to each person individually.

 

I agree with above. It just seems to point out what we value and how we learn about ourselves. Is there a topic to discuss with it?

Eh, I don't quite understand your topics title; self-realization and self-actualization are different things you know?

I disagree with this actually, I believe you could become self-actualized without achieving any of these.

 

I am studying this as a Junior in high school. This foundation is known as Mazlow's Hierarchy. I find this not such a focus point in itself, rather a tool for reference when delving upon ethics.

 

Generally we think about eating more than we think about running away from people, I'd like to think.

 

This is so elementary and lacks MANY stages beyond what most define as "self-actualization."

Yes, you need food before you can move up to safety, and so on, but when you get to "self-actualization," things can get pretty fucking bizarre/cool. Various stages are needed before one can advance to practicing magick (with proficiency). For example, one must first go through the destruction of the ego (Jungian definition).


What's the significance of this thread btw? I'm not trying to sound pompous, but this is taught in 11th year high school. Christ, AP psychology went into Harry Maslow's bullshit, and that class is a JOKE.
