I'm a junior so I'm just starting all the fun....

 

Any tips from current college goers?

You are on Sythe an awful lot for 'giving up your social life to do pointless shit'. I don't think too many Pokemon obsessed people go to Harvard, either.

And just throwing it out there: It's the 'US of A', not and, Mr. Hey look I am going to lie about school on a Runescape cheating forum.

On topic: I'm a sophomore but I want to go to some type of business school.

I'd be interested to hear how your stats match up though - ACT/SAT/ extracurriculars/ grades. I can tell you that Stanford rejected a perfect 36 ACT, straight-A student, 12+ AP courses all 5's, and Speech and Debate national finalist. The school's that you listed are all reaches for me according to multiple scatter plots and a general investigation - though I'm applying early decision to Upenn.

Oh, and being Asian doesn't help,

 

Depending on my final GPA, what I get on the ACT when I retake it, and what field i decide to go into I'll be applying to either The University of Chicago or UofM (University of Michigan).

Best way to live college life would be best for me. Not sure, but people always have tips for stuff like this, like, don't party the first semester or some shit.

Affirmative Action kills all Asian-Americans,
MIT Harvard CalTech Stanford, most of the undergrads are from China & India (who, believe it or not did not pass the IIT/ China Exit Exam, with fairly good scores). Not even joking....
Well, you need atleast 2320+ SAT scores to get into high Ivy's. And NO ONE is guaranteed cept the rich kids with legacy.

I just realized that I fucked up half of last year and most of 8th grade, and want to do better. I'll be trying to study like a bitch (despite being one lazy fuck) for the SATs and get straight A's.

As of now, Brooklyn College seems ok ( I'd probably have no problem getting in. If I manage to do well on my SATs and this year/senior year, I'll be applying to NYU (New York University) and Columbia University (Steph goes there right?)

I don't know what I want to major in yet, but It'll probably be biology or something, and then I'll continue on to medical school.

 

I'm in australia, just wondering are american colleges all what they are like in movies? (e.g. movie College, american pies,)

 

Anybody got any tips on how you decide what you want to do as a career after school? I'm 100% wanting to continue on with a tertiary education after highschool but I seriously have no clue what to study/become or pursue as a career. :/

Contact your room mates via Facebook or phone before you actually meet them. Get to know them a little, and figure out who is bringing what beforehand. (TV, mini fridge, microwave, etc)

Try not to eat the same shit every day at the caf, you WILL get sick of everything there.

Try to make lots of friends the first few days (during orientation).

Don't become best friends with your room mate(s). You will most likely end up hating them by the end of the year, so the less time you spend with them outside of your room the better.

You can party whenever you want, just don't go to huge parties because 95% of the time they get busted. If you are going to drink, do it with a couple friends (4-8) in a room and don't be loud.

Don't try to smoke in your room, the fire alarm WILL go off.

Don't be annoying.

Make friends with upper classmen.

Don't be stupid.

Don't be a douche.

Avoid drama. The drama katana is a bitch.



Don't try to date someone from your dorm house. My room mate did, and now his ex girlfriend is one of my best friends and she won't come to our room because he's here.

Don't waste your education..you're the one paying for it now. DO YOUR FUCKING HOMEWORK.

Learn to prioritize.
1.)Sleep
2.)Homework
3.)Fun

If you have the option to, do laundry at home. Its balls expensive at school. (Here each machine is $1.25 per load, and I have to dry each load twice because the dryers suck ass.)

Take advantage of the things your school has to offer. If you don't someone else will. (Join clubs, go to events, play sports.) For example, every Thursday my school has a free movie night where the school will pay for a taxi to pick you up, drive you to the movie theater, pay for your ticket, and taxi you back. Free.

Leave your door open and more people will hang out in your room.

Get a fucking job, you're going to want money to do shit. Like laundry.

Don't spend all your fucking time online. Yes, I'm talking to you.

Going to a community college next year to get an associates in Computer Science.. then I'm not sure. I sort of want to go into the Air Force, because my girlfriend's parents are both in and they make pretty good bank doing what they do.. but I could also go onto a 4 year school after I get my associates. It's still unclear.

Well look at it this way:

IB Program, 5 AP classes (all of which are extra on FLVS), and I take a shit load of community service.

IB graduates are more likely to get accepted as 1-2 of our school's seniors get accepted year round at Harvard and those other schools. It's a lasting tradition.

As for clubs, I'm pretty versatile in a variety of subjects (Mu Alpha Theta team and individual, Key Club, Amnesty International, Green Club, Speech and Debate (Speech & Debate + Mu Alpha Theta are my experiments this year).

I'm
- 34 ACT
- 12 AP classes + Calculus 3 + College Intro to Business.
- State Track/Vars
- 4.6+ GPA
- Captain Science Team / Officer DECA/Wind Symphony

All IVY's are still reaches according to all the info I've seen. Believing that Duke is a safety school is crazy thought... unless you have perfect test scores + National Competion 1st place.

 

Anyone got any athletic scholarships anywhere cool? Sorry off topic but I'd like to hear if anyone here is going to play sports in college?

 

No college right off the bat, I'm going into the Marine Corps

But! I do plan on doing some college while in. Some colleges have online courses (which I plan to take) and some are even lenient toward military folks so I should be good to go. Of course I don't expect to get my bachelors or whatever, at best my associates in 4 years, then finish everything outside with my spare cash and hopefully I can use my GI bill a bit (though, I'm not sure how exactly it works)

Probably major in police studies/science since I plan to join the border patrol and maybe become a policeman down the road. I only plan on doing 4/5 years in the military, so yeah :laugh:

Then way down the road I want to get my masters or PhD in sociology/psychology and become a child psychologist :nuts:
