Can I use baking soda instead of baking powder?

I wanted to know so I can make some muffins. Lol.. anyone help me?

I've faced this question before. Yes you can. There was no noticeable difference.

What did you bake though?

 

You can substitute baking powder in place of baking soda (you'll need more baking powder and it may affect the taste), but you can't use baking soda when a recipe calls for baking powder. Baking soda by itself lacks the acidity to make muffins rise. However, you can make your own baking powder if you have baking soda and cream of tartar. Simply mix two parts cream of tartar with one part baking soda.

 

i love how my kitchen doesnt have baking powder or cream of tartar..

 

That sucks. Lol.

You can still make the muffins with neither, but without a leavening agent the muffins won't rise and you be left with small biscuit-muffins.

 

Only if the recipe includes vinegar.
