grades represent your effort in school. Nothing to do with intelligence. Someone without much intelligence can force himself to study 24/7 and get all A's, but he might not be smart enough to run his own business for example.

If you get bad grades, you are either not intelligent enough or are lazy. Now I don't want to show off, but in my Biology class the tests are so hard I literally have to read every night for 2 hours to get an A. I could easily do this in one hour, but I don't bother.

So grades really don;t show much. I know some dumb straight A students, and I gotta say they are not going to be successful in life.

For all of you who read this, study hard! It's wirth it when you apply to college!

All I do is just take more Honors classes and not necessarily do well in them =p

Grades can tell, if only a little, only a persons current knowledege and willingness to do the work. I don't put any effort into anything I don't find interesting which isn't anything that's easy.

Exactly, I know a few people who get straight As and are dumb shits outside of school and grades. They just track your progress thats all, not how intelligent a person is.

School grades don't necessarily reflect on how intelligent you are , it just says that you put your effort into it , or you have the ability to memorize things more quickly. Not knowing how to speak English doesn't mean your unintelligent if you haven't learnt it with effort.

Grades mean nothing at all... I hand in all my homework late, if I do at all... I never study. I'm online in class that I can use my computer. I text or try and sleep in the rest of them and I still get half As and half Bs...

I find those grades fine, so why should I even bother trying harder to get better ones when they mean basically nothing? There is no point.

Grades mean nothing at all, as SuF said. I'm probably the smartest in my family, and I made F's all the way up from Middleschool to Highschool, and I even dropped out of Highschool and went to a boot camp, and got my GED. But I am way far more intelligent then any of my family members.. :)

Grades are very important to setting up habits that will impact you for the rest of your life. As for intelligence, obviously not. In my opinion, it isn't hard to get an A on that English paper if you just spend some time on it. My opinion in short, not all 4.0 GPA students are at the same level of intelligence.

Grades show nothing but a persons work effort. an intellectually capable person can succeed but some one with out knowledge who works hard can be successful. nothing is going to happen if you are extremly intellectually gifted but sit on your ass all day and watch t.v

No it's just laziness. I am really lazy on homework, in math my homework grade is a c- but my classwork grade is a B and the test grade is an A.

Grades reflect intelligence in virtually no way. What they do reflect is effort and motivation. With the exception of some skill-based classes such as math (and even that is arguable), anyone can get good grades in school if they put in enough effort. Then there's the opposite side of the spectrum (me). Many people take their intelligence for granted and DON'T put the effort into schoolwork (college for me, and I actually do my work now). People like this often end up with relatively poor marks (nothing to really complain about) but not nearly their potential. For example, I had a stead B average throughout high school, but managed to score 1950 on the SAT (and for the American forum users, you know that's pretty good). So no, grades do not reflect intelligence, but they certainly matter, because in all truth, the work force is no different than school. If you're motivated, you can get your job done. You can't have intelligence without motivation.
