Should homosexuals have the right to get married?

Lets start off with a little background info:

I have family that is gay and I think nothing wrong of it, a Marriage is a Marriage- if two people are happy let them be. America has come along way of tolerance of the issue. To be a democratic nation we need to allow rights to all. America was founded on religious FREEDOM- Because people had different ideas than the mainstream public.

 

How did you come to that conclusion? Where does it say that this is about heterosexuals?

 

Doesn't it bother you at all that homosexuality is punishable by death in the Bible?

This is in no way, shape or form, an intellectual debate. Marriage is considered a religious supported act. If in the Bible, it denies rights of the people trying to get married, then you can't get married. It's not in the rights of the people, but in the Bible. Yes, I know not all of the Bible's followers don't practice EXACTLY as the Bible states, but this is one thing that they mostly agree against.

So, the only other Solution: have a Civil Union. But to do that, you'd have to expand them alot more than the regions they're in now, and have the EXACT same benifits as a wedded couple shall have.

 

Federal recognition is fueled by homo-phobic brainwash/society irregularities from the Bible. We all know that any couple should be wed. I can't think of one reason why they could not/should not.

 

I do believe we share the same views, it's just I want to end this silly thread because nothing can really be done about it unless someone can tell me a legitimate reason why gay couples shouldn't be wed.

 

This bible is confusing. You treat people equally (all people) but only if you're a certain way. You go against this bible and you would have been killed, but it's only because god loves you? If this god loved all of us why would he send a person to hell for being something that god didn't like. He sounds like an intolerant bitch to me.

Yes they should just because It would be discrimination in my point of view, and please don't bring the bible into this please, as no one here can give proof that God exists or does not exist, or that the Bible is true or untrue.

 

The Bible is a book of morals for most of those political. Not everyone is ok with gays being married that is in a high place because of it. Which is why, the Bible, is, at the same time, a good reference and a source. It may not be credible to you, but it sure is to the ones making the laws.

I'm not trying to prove God's existence in any way. The point is that marriage is a religious ritual and should be treated as such. If you don't like it, don't get married. I know I'm not gonna get married.

 

Ignorance. Marriage with a different name is still marriage. I believe that anyone should be able to get married to whichever sex they prefer. For those using the Bible as a reason to say no do a little research. If you really look into it the Bible has different areas that even talk about men kissing and embracing. Also, if you really translate the Bible word for word there are differences from Hebrew to English. Even when the Bible says that being gay is an abomination doesn't mean it's against the religion. "Egyptians considered themselves as defiled when they ate with strangers" There are different meanings to many words used in the Bible as they are used today.

 

But if you don't get married you don't have the benefits of normal couples. There was this gay couple and one of the partners got into an accident and had to be rushed to the hospital. He wasn't going to make is long so only family members and spouses were allowed to see him in his last few minutes. His partner couldn't see him because technically they weren't married, even though they had been together for more than 10 years. I think that would ruin someones life.

There are also over 1000 more things that come with marriage that gay couples can't have just because they can't get married.

 

Just food for thought;

Considering how the nation was built apposing Elizabeth/Victorian(I can't remember which, and I don't feel like looking it up.) law of Catholicism to 'all', putting so much significance on a ritual relating to religion(Also considering how 'marriage' is a religious ritual.) is extremely hypocritical.

You apply rights to those who follow certain beliefs related to a ritual that came from a certain religion, yet you're able to do it because you broke away from an existence where a certain religion was pushed on people.

That's ridiculous, to me. Just saying.

 

Then a simple solution would be to create a kind of civil union without involving the church.

 

Of course, and in my country it is.

There is no reason for ANYONE to decide who can get married to who. If a guy wants to marry a guy, let them get married. The only problem I see with marriages now day is the Age of the two getting married, I don't suggest someone go out and get married at the age of 16 just because they think they're in 'love.' I reckon a lot of people get married at that age because they're having a baby or something along those lines. But for anyone to say a guy and a guy or a woman and a woman can't get married, that's ridiculous, I've often argued about this with my friends and shit. It's very stupid imo, and I don't see why the government/states see that they can control that?
