You should check out my settings. There's a clickable link in my sig. But, if it's a first, it's not too bad.

Just mess around until you find something appealable. A nice dark blue smudged always looks great.

Okay, the colouring and smudging's pretty nice.

From here onwards, i would firstly pick a render with yellow and greenish colourings, and one that has flow from bottom left to top right, since that is naturally fitting with the flow of colours in the smudging.

I would also try find a render where the lighting comes from the lighter part from up top left, where the lighter greenish goes into the boundaries, since that would also go perfectly with the smudge colours.

once you integrate and blend the render/c4d's/effects, i would then sharpen the focal, and slightly blur the edges, or the parts furthest away from the render (i'm guessing that'll be your focal), and i'd have clipping of just the first product (this smudging sig), and the finished product (smudging sig with the render/c4d's/effects etc), to create a contrast etc.

oh and i'd make the colouration of the effects green and yellowish orange, around #ff9b30, though that's just my taste.

P.S. i'm not even nearly Pro lol :)

nononononono, whatever you do do not smudge the focal point, or anywhere near the focal point (basically his face).

At most, smudge his shoulders SLIGHTLY, but try leave it at that, unless you cover his shoulders with clipping of some sort.

Move the render left by around 100 px as well, so you get the clear lighting of the two parts :)

I thought that smudging the focal point looked good though. I'm thinking I may quit as I'm definitly not good enough for this shiz.

you're better than half the people here. naturally, faces are meant to be left natural looking, since when a face is smudged or blurred, or the eyes, that's a huge mistake that destroys the reality of the sig.

unless meant otherwise, the face of a render is more than 90% of all focal points.

    Just keep experimenting and trying.
