Obama's Speech on Education

Now, I'm not sure if every school in the U.S. watched this speech today during school, but I'm pretty sure the majority of the schools in my county did. If you haven't seen it, here it is:

What did you think? Despite some opinions I have heard, of it being "socialist propaganda"- I don't understand how it is in any way- I thought it was frank and true.

Hmm, odd. They told us that every school in the country should be watching it. If you go to a private school that could be why but if you don't, well, idk. Perhaps it was just for east coast schools.

 

Mom gave me a lecture and said I cant use computer, phone or anything electronical this whole year or see anyone during the school week

He mispronounced JK Rowling's name. I don't recall him mispronouncing Michael Jordan's name, but alright. I thought he was a little harsh when he said, "You are probably not going to end up being a basketball player, or a sitcom actor, or a rapper". Why not? Anyway, it was written for grades K-12 so don't expect flawless prose.

That sounds terrible. Aren't you supposed to chase your dreams? Also the hypocrisy is amazing (michael jordan)

 

Although I like Obama, this speech bored me immensely. It was just him talking about everything we've known and be told our entire lives (at least in my case).

It was fairly useless in my opinion. I doubt it inspired one person to stay in school that didn't want to.

It also probably cost us a ton in tax dollars to listen to.. =/

 

His bad choices? What bad choices has he made? Or are you just saying that because your mommy and daddy don't like him.

 

Our teachers gave us a option to watch it because I go to a private school and they stated that if we didn't have the same views we could just go off campus.. So of course half my class left, anyone want to fill me in on the bullshit Obama said?

 

I watched like half of it and got soooo bored of it... Wasn't that good... >_>.

So what if you're 19? You, even if you disagree with your parents, probably have the remnants of whatever they taught you about politics still ingrained in your mind.

 

The way you talk I highly doubt you are 19, if you are I almost feel bad for you. Racism is against the rules. Reported.

 

What he was saying was that you can't go straight into those things, you have to work for them. You can't have those as a fallback career, so don't expect to. He mentioned how MJ got cut from his high school team, but kept trying in school and basketball.

 

How exactly did you miss the propoganda? It was quite clear.

1. Guilt trips - "If you give up in school you give up on your country"
2. "You're all the same...yada yada yada...You need to be just like everyone else and do good in school" - Clearly a stepping stone towards socialism/communism
3. He referenced revolutionary ideas a number of times, comparing our generation to those of the revolutionaries in American history. That being said, the underlying message could be interpreted as him wanting a social "revolution" or change, which is a fundamental principle among Democrats.
4. This speech had been reworked a number of times already, with some of the "controversial" stuff being edited out.

All that being said, it is evident that the media is ultimately responsible for all this hoopla. If you were watching msnbc like myself, you would have heard that Republicans had not made an official statement about the speech yet and were waiting until afterward. So if we rule out Republicans for the cause, we can assume the media is at fault here.
