Plagiarism needs to be a perm ban

You've lost nothing? Intellectual rights are nothing? Time spent is nothing? Not even air is nothing, my friend. It is in fact air. It keeps us living and thriving.

 

I spend my time writing guides so people read them and get educated for free. I don't give a fuck if someone takes my guide and claims it is theirs, because I'm not obsessed with people crediting me for it. If 1000 people copy my guide, then more people have benefited from it.

That's not my point though. My point is, a person should be given a second chance because it is not a serious issue.

 

Do you think 12 year olds know what it means? The rules don't explain it... Some people still don't understand really what it is even after they are taught... So. Thats why they get a second chance.

The rules saying that plagiarism covers ripping of graphics and UE guides... That only covers FULL guides. And most of the time... When people rip full guides, they know they are doing something wrong... But when they just take a bit, they think its all right... When I was 12 I don't think I had any idea what plagiarism was.

They know they're in the wrong and are therefore wrong.

Yes they do! When you accept the rules and sign up to Sythe.org you know!!!!!! When you write your UE app and write that the guides are yours, you know!!!!!

What does it take to get through to you?!?! You're trying to deny a clear cut fact.

Oh no, he stole my guide and gave it out to the world..which is the point in making the guide, correct? So you can let others know of it? If he is posting the guide for you, he is doing what you wanted in the first place..getting it out to the people. Yes, he should give you credit for it but a bannable offense? No.

The point is, people don't always read everything so sometimes they don't intentionally plagiarize.

 

They could come here thinking it's a scam site and not agree to that but still be banned.

Because scamming is theft, and posting someone else's guide is just helping the original poster.

 

You can say you understand them, but don't really... You have to give them a chance or you end up banning many people....

 

The degree of the offense should be taken into account...

The lesser of the punishments should be just a two week (14day) ban.
i.e.
If it is just copy&paste text from a website with someone's response to an issue without a citation giving them credit AND it doesnt harm that person's reputation or financial situation by copying their text.

On the other hand, if it does drive someone's financial standing down, or hurt/create controversy of their ownership of the document then it should be a perm ban.

Again, easily avoided by just putting "--quote from xxxxxxx" in the post.
