Memorizing all the countries in the world..

I was going to post this in the Homework Help Sticky but it seems it takes a while for those to get answered.

So I've got this A.P. World History summer assignment that I need to finish by next Tuesday (first day of school). Part of the assignment was to memorize the names and locations of all the nations in the world.

I sort of slacked off for most of the summer (shocker, I know :p), anyway I've spent the past two days trying to memorize names and locations. So far I have most of the America's and the Majority of the Asia. I'm just starting Africa but can already tell this is going to pretty difficult.

Not sure if you ever had to memorize all the countries, or even just something similar; but I was wondering if you had any tips.

Really, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Make maps with #'s for each of the countries and then wright the name of that country with the number next to it on the back, and quiz yourself trying to memorize them. That's what I did for my history class and got 100% on every test.

Print off a big blank map of the world and right down all the countries you know 100%. Then put that map away, and look at a map with all the countries labeled. After that take the map you're writing the countries on, back out and see what you know. Continue to do so until you have all the countries, then do this a few times till you don't need the real map.

Ya that was actually the first thing I tried, I swear I watched it about 50 times and put it on my iPod and listened to it about another 100 times. I have the majority if not all of the song memorized, it's just that the video begins to go so fast, it's really hard to memorize the countries' locations.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. At least I'll be able to focus on one continent at a time.

I'll give this one a try too.

I'll report back later after I've tried all of the above suggestions.

I had to do a similar thing last year, making flash cards helps big time. I think there is a game to where you have to match the country to the location. Africa was by far the hardest Continent.

Memorizing all the countries in the world..

Start off with memorising the smaller countrys such as Fiji, Somoa, New Guinnea, Timor etc.

Then you should fly through the easier to remember ones such as Germany, France, Italy, England, Australia, Canada etc.

    Goodluck :)

Thanks everyone one day to go and I've made a lot of progress.
The website HeavenLord linked me to seems to be especially helpful.
By the way to clear up some confusion for the test I"ll be given a blank map (with border outlines) and I'll have to fill in the countries' names.

    It's crunch time now.
