Why teenagers drink

So I was reading this article that interviewed some kids my age and the gist of it was this: Teenagers, specifically high schoolers, who drink at parties, use alchohol to stave off any awkwardness that a party may cause. It said that in high school, you are the most insecure that you will probably ever be in your life, and the tension that a large organized social interaction (especially inter-gender) can be very easily mended with a little booze. From my experiences at parties, I think I'd agree with this tbh. You can't feel awkward when you're drunk, or when you're talking to a drunk person. Thoughts? Why do you drink, if you do?

 

To be honest, i don't see the need to drink. I have never had alcohol in my life or done drugs, and i think i have turned out fine. I'm not against either of them, just don't see a need for people to do them.

 

i drink because it loosens me up, and its much easier to make moves.
and you can always blame it on the alcohol.

 

I drink on the occasion, nad i do it beacuse its fun.. no other reason really. i can easily go to a praty and not do it.

 

i drink so i can have more confidence in gettin girls, and it also makes me have fun. You cannot have fun without drinking at a party, thats a fact.

 

You are obviously a kid that just discovered alcohol and gives into peer pressure.

Wow, that is probably the most accurate statement I've heard about under-age drinking....not the BS about "teenagers to drink their problems away" LOL fuck that, I like smoking herb better than drinking but when I do drink its pretty much what the OP said...plus its fun

it isn't for me, although some people really feel that way. i have a couple of friends who party all the time, and they can not go to a party w/o drinking. if he feels that way, let him.

I do not see where you are going with this.

 

you judged him when you, yourself, have never tried alcohol. do what you want, i'm just trying to back him up.

i didn't say that was a problem, i can have w/o drinking too. judging someone without experiencing whatever you are judging is

 

I didn't start drinking until I turned like 17.

There's really no set reason why teenager's drink, everyone is different. I always went to parties (before i drank) and just hung out and chilled with my friends. I still hang out and chill with them the same as I always did, now there's just drinking involved. Its more of a social thing, it's just "out of the normal life to be drunk, therefore its fun". . .its something different

I mean if we were drunk 24/7 naturally, people would be saying "yo you wanna get sober Friday night?". . .and I would be down haha

Edit: There's also fun games that come with drinking, card games, beer pong, flip cup, hell it makes an already fun game like twister BADASS.

 

if you havn't even tried drinking, don't post on this topic, drinking is fun, but has heaps of affects the next morning : D

they see other people do it so they do it too, and they force themsselves to have it until they get addicted
