The rules are enforced way too serious.

Does ANYONE remember how things used to be? I mean, I used to lurk in 05, and how, if you posted "This is dumb" nothing would be said to you. But now, if you posted "This is dumb", you would be infracted for spam.
The rules have been so serious, there is no such thing as a dumb post that comes without a infraction anymore. The rules used to be more simple, and infractions were given when people went crazy and out of hand.

Of course, Advertisement threads should be locked/infracted, but I remember when a user first joined, on shredderbeam's congratz thread, that he said "Well deserved", He got a infraction for spam.
My point is, most people report things nowadays because they have a petty little grudge on them. I believe, the spam infraction, should only be used for flooding and such, not for things that go 1% off topic.

 

So you're saying if a user goes through all the threads in the RS section and posts "This is dumb" "Cool." "Thats cool" etc to get postcount, you'd allow that? You know how many people decide to base trust off postcount? I'm not saying it should be that way, but that's how some people do it. Of course in the beginning of the site, the site tried to be a bit more allowing of things, as they were in need of members. Now that we have a good userbase, we want to make this community less prone to scammers and the like. That's why rules are enforced more heavily

 

Good argument. You forgot that most people that come onto Sythe that want to steal virtual goods. They are also tools and little kids who report and who want to be liked on the internet because they are not in real life. Many people here are wannabe-mods. An example is like what's happening in Runescape.

But the rules are good, there are many stupid people out there that need to punished for posting stupid posts. I think it mostly little kids who want to become wannabe-mods and want to become trusted by becoming a snitch and eventually...scamming big.

 

I've noticed this aswell and have even been infracted for it, I usually read through threads and post short replies, doesn't mean I'm just spamming for a post count. I also understand why its being enforced though.

 

No, that would be considered flooding.

I'm just saying, that if they only do it once, on 1 thread, it shouldn't be infract-able.

And I'm not saying that posts that are like "GFHgjfhfghajsd" should not get infracted. But posts that are on topic, yet off topic, and people that don't elaborate get infracted, should not be infracted.

See, also, I got a infraction on a thread because I double posted. Such as...

"Yeah, that's cool"


Then I quoted someone answering to them, and got a infraction.

That is really..... stupid. It should just be a warning through PM.

And, Look at the RSA, it got 7 pages of spam reports from today...

I am pretty sure... 95% of those reports are for off topic posts and not even worth the moderators time.

 

They have been warned, if they want to make stupid posts like those they will be getting an infraction. I don't see what is wrong.

 

I know it is already in the rules, what's wrong with it is even with a little slip, we get in trouble.

Just let it go, is all I ask, instead of infracting every little post that is like that.

 

Then we'd might as well delete the rule. Either follow the rules, or you'll be infracted. The seller of an account doesn't care if you think it's a nice account. The graphics artist wants to know what you liked about their art, what they could work on etc.

The rules are not up for negotiation.

 

If the rules aren't working out, which currently, they aren't, because they enforced too hard, then I believe that they should be considered for change.

I'm not talking about on black market threads, moreover the threads in gaming sections.

 

Also, if you really did lurk in 05 you would remember that we were not the community we are today.

 

The rules are working fine. After that rule has been broken the first time, and infracted accordingly, they are rarely broken again by the same person. The rules are fine the way they are, and we're not going to "fix" them to accommodate spam.

 

I don't see anything wrong with the rules.

Just leave them as they are, if you get an infraction suck it up and move on unless you have something to complain about.

 

Just spam anyway. A little spam never hurt anyone. EVER.

Not only did we try to be more permissive in the past (until it became clear that it wasn't working out), but we're always getting more users. The more users we have, the bigger problem spam poses to those of us interested in the actual discussion. Now, I'm not sure about you, but I'd much rather read through two pages an account sale to find out what the other bids are, than an additional three pages of nothing but "you should train def", "nice acc," "I would buy if...", "nice, gl", etc. And that's just in the market. It's even more annoying in off topic, where thoughtful responses require reading through previous comments.

 

The past is not now. This is how a forum should be run and enforced.

 

There are rules for a reason. If there weren't; it'd be a mess.
