Computer help..

Well I have a really shitty computer right now, it has about 500gb HD 3gb ram and I only get like 10 fps in WoW max... So I'm looking to get a new computer.. and need advice, I was thinking of buying this amd build it yourself performance kit but I have no idea how to build a computer or what id need to buy..

What is you're price limit? I honestly do not recommend AMD.

are you on vista? if so go to my computer->system properties and tell me what your windows experience index rating is. It is probably your internet that is giving you trouble because WOW has very low requirements.

 

You could probably get a cheap Compaq.

 

I don't think it is really because at my old house ( Different internet ) I got the same fps, Maybe its my graphics card? Idk what i have but its maybe really bad :X...

You have an hp, meaning it has a shitty graphics card. a 3 is more than good enough to play WOW though so it is probably internet related.

upgrade to a nvidia 8800 as i'm not sure if it'll take ati. that'll run you around 100$ and let you play almost every game on the highest graphic settings.

Hp is total shit, I used to have one my parents paid like 1700 for it. Now it is worth about 200$. The newer ones are good if you put a graphics card in them but nothing beats a custom build computer.

 

do not listen to this man, he doesn't know what he's talking about. you can use ati or nvidea on ANY motherboard, it doesn't matter. the only thing that does matter is if you want to go crossfire or SLI in the future which i highly doubt you want to do.

firstly if you want to upgrade your graphics card then you need to figure out if your power supply can handle it. typically you would want something with around 400-500 watts with a strong 12v rail. most OEM manufacturers do not have strong power supplys, so i would do an extended amount of research on yours. now for the graphics card...

8800's arent sold anymore anywhere. they got replaced by the 9800 series, which is basically a rebrand of the 8800.
something like a 9600gt would be good for your situation, or if you want ati then a HD 4830 would be fine.

lousy power supplies, why would you ever get the bare minimum. Enermax infiniti has additional functions to make your parts last longer.

sold on ebay, 8800 is identicle to the 9800 which isn't that great either. I know the computer he doesn't need a new power supply for a 8800 as my friends dad has the identicle computer. If you can crossfire or SLI why wouldn't you go with the option you can just in case?

btw 4830s are hard to find and not worth the money compared to a 4850.

lousy power supply? corsair makes the best and most reliable power supplies on the market, period. theres no argument. care to list those additional functions...in your own words?

do you even know that there are 8800gt's, 8800gts's 384mb and 512mb, 8800gs, and 8800gtx's? you keep saying just 8800, 9800, theres a big difference between them. why would you buy any 8800gt/gts/gtx off ebay when you can get a 9800gt/gts/gtx/gtx+ that is backed up by warranty?

4830's are always in stock at newegg, i dont see how they are hard to find. and you can see them go as low as 65$...whereas a 4850 is around 100$.

 

Can get a warranty and Idon't even touch nvidia cards. I got two diamond 4850s for 300$ last december so I have no need for anything else. The enermax infiniti keeps running to cool your computer down faster after you shut it down, you can set it for either 30 40 or 50 celcius. They did tests, probably with 30 celcius and supposedly it made the products last like 20% longer.

 

your saying you would rather have an older 8800gt over a 9800gt? shows how much you know about computers...

the enermax infiniti series is not comparable to ANY corsair psu. im not saying their bad psu's but corsairs still come out on top.

 

I go by the price, and I got a p45 so i'd definitely go with ati. I'd end up with 9800 gtx x2, i'm just saying he plans on playing world of warcraft and the 8800 is a cheap ok card.

 

well price isn't always the best when it comes to computers, you can screw up your whole system if you decide to skimp on one part. your still saying 8800, which are you referring to? even so, why not take the 9 series over the 8? the 4830 and 9600 are perfectly fine cards for WoW, its just unreasonable to buy an older card from ebay when you can get a new one from a major website like newegg. anyways, the new dx11 cards are coming out soon so OP if you can wait a bit then i would suggest that.

 

since your budget is only 700 add a new graphics car 8800gt will be pretty good, your ram is good, your hard drive is good and if your processor is under a 2.0ghz dual core (if you have a dual core) or 2.6 single core then i would get a new processor as well. If you want to get a new custom build computer then i suggest getting a higher budget. Also make sure that it is not a virus limiting your speeds.
