They weren't happy together? It is a good example because the dude in the house and his sister married each other. They both had problems due to the in-breeding such as the sister having schizophrenia.

 

No one has taken into account that the low chance of deformation is still some chance. Why should a child have to suffer the rest of its life due to this?

Basically, it's like saying "Abuse of prescription pills is alright, because there's only a low chance of addiction." Same thing here, you're saying there's only a small chance of the child being deformed, but not taking into account that small chance at all, which could ruin lives.

I've got no clue where you got kill from, we're on the topic of cousins marrying. I said I disagree.

Tyro, the chances are significantly higher when its cousins, so why should that child be put under that risk of being deformed.

 

We basically had a whole 3 weeks of class discussion on it. We researched that schizophrenia can be a result of in-breeding.

 

As I said before, it was 0.1% chance of a deformity. The same as a 40 year old women having a child which is relatively low. As I said before, PLEASE CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE. The chances of the baby being deformed are still slim to none, Charles Darwin had ten children, out of the ten only one maybe none had a deformity. Only three died, and two were because of diseases, you can look it up for yourself, the rest lived to be between 67-93 and all perfectly healthy.

EDIT: To the person above me, Schizophrenia can be a recessive trait in most cases. Im going to do a little bit of digging and get back with a better awnser.

It a genetic disorder however it is not hereditary most of the time. I wouldn't prevent people with down syndrome to get married. However I would prevent them from having children due to them possibly not able to properly care for them.

 

A lot of these facts don't seem factual. It would be helpful if there was a website that was more credible.

 

You don't know what you are talking about. I was 85% sure I was right to begin with, as last year I was in Biology with a large chapter on genetic disorders. I looked it up however just to make sure.

Is it just me, or do people not even read the first post. The chances of deformities are EXTREMELY low. Also, marrying your cousin isnt that bad, infact most of the people you know are somewhat related to you. You could be marrying your 50th cousin.

I think you're right about the cousin thing but you're making a mistake when you're talking about down syndrome people.
My little brother has Down Syndrome and my mom stated that like 95% of these people are not allowed to get children since there is a big chance of getting an even (mentally and physicaly) sicker child then someone with Down syndrome. Cousins should decide themselves if they wanna mary eachother or not. Just don't mary your brother or sister, this is sick.

 

I think they should be allowed to, but I'm not going to do so. It's their choice to marry as it is my choice not to marry a cousin.

Edit: I'm not sure why people are calling it 'nasty'. I really want to know why you think that? 45th cousins are very far apart, but they are cousins. I firmly, firmly believe that certain religions are corrupting true morality. I'll use Christianity as an example for this. In the Bible, as the OP stated, it is not against anything to marry a cousin, on the other hand, many preachers are on a war path to end this. It's strange how gullible people are.
