    Cash for clunkers?

Your missing the whole purpose. They are destroying the engine so that it can never be re-used again to harm the environment. Why would you want to re-use an engine that gets seven miles to the gallon. More than half the people in this thread bashing on the program don't even realise the benefits or the point of the idea.

I don't understand this statement, "This in ultimately makes more cars be sold to them, so they can get rid of all the old cars and make people buy new ones". Can you please elaborate? If you are trying to say the point of the program is to sell cars to people you are misinformed. The people recieve money for the car they turn in that can only be spent on a better and more enviornment efficient car. Who knows they could be buying a car with money left over which destroys your entire hate theory. Please do some research before ranting on something that is actually worthy.

You're missing the point of the program. :p

"Cash for Clunkers" is - at least in principle - aimed at getting older, inefficient cars off the road. The intention is for people to put the money they receive towards greener, more fuel efficient cars. (And, of course, to help boost the auto industry, which has been hit hard by the recession.)

Unfortunately, they didn't really spend much time thinking about where the money to fund the program was going to come from.

Edit: Bah, punk beat me to it >.<

Heres the thing, my friend has a 94 Caddy STS? I think which actually prolly qualifies. He mentioned it to me about doing it and was like "your car is too new to qualify" and I said to him, So the gov't bailing out car companys is pretty much behind this. I mean it's a good idea in ecessance but not in a national way.

Lets say you own a 92 honda civic. If you cannot find parts for it because all the cars are crushed after 180 days, then you will end up having to buy a new car, because you can't find parts for it (mainly body parts like fenders, bumpers, trunk lids, etc). The point of the program is to sell cars to the people, or else they wouldn't offer sooooo many rebates. You can get a brand new car for around 9k with all the rebates they offer. I think the concept of it is a great idea. I however, do not like the idea of them just destroying the car, adding more waste to the environment. Let us reuse the damn parts atleast.

Yes, because letting all the oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc just pour onto the ground (yes, they just empty it on the ground) and then destroying the car so the parts they can't use just sit in a landfill, is way better than recycling the parts.

No. The point of the program is to have a safer and cleaner enviroment and they destroy the parts because they give off high fuel emissions and are not safe. They should be destroyed unless you prefer to inhale chemicals. Also where does it say they are dumping the chemicals, oil, etc on the floor?

Yes, the plastic that is going in landfills gives off high fuel emissions. Why else would the government offer to do this, unless they wanted the car companys money back, after we just pumped all that into them for it just to fail? Its quite obvious. I am no where near saying that they are not doing it for a cleaner environment, but i believe getting their wasted money back is a top priority. And in some of the videos, they are dumping all the fluids on the ground.
