    User Education Evaluation

This is NOT a bitch thread. I'm just trying to make a simple point. Not trolling, not trying to instigate an argument, just want people to see this, etc :p. Don't get over heated, and try and troll in this thread, anyways, because I will win ;). Anyways...

RuneScape has never had an intelligent following. Some of us who used to play the game are actually embarrassed to say that we ever played it. The name alone is associated with immature idiots who have no concept of reality. Therefore, a lot of us attempt to disassociate with such.

Anyways, that isn't a new fact, but that doesn't make it good for Sythe's business (yes it was elsewhere before, stfu). Anyways, knowing that having an intelligent community of people who played RS, more people would be intrigued, and would join the community. You'd successfully get those who are ashamed to say the play RS to announce it, and come join.

Yes, there are more reasons behind the post saying 'Get Educated, or Get Lost', but that's simply what happened. Good SEO, on top of the semi-intelligent people who play the GAME that were in this community, kept Sythe's member count kept climbing.

But it was taken a bit too far =/. Those who were semi-intelligent assumed that 'get educated or get lost' meant 'lets teach everyone else what we don't know everything about'.

So instead of learning, those semi-intelligent people became morons by trying to randomly teach information.

    /rabbling.

Anyways, the User Education system's point is for you to Get Educated. Those on the User Education team, don't take this as an insult, but you are not smart enough to be teaching other people what you think you know.

Right now, judging is done based on the layout of your guides, the design, etc. People are being accepted by others who have no clue what the fuck you're talking about. It's like having a judge who has no concept of law. =/. It's the blind leading the blind while trying to teach other blind kids how to read. It's pathetic, it's annoying, it's wrong, and it's ineffective.

Will it stop? Probably not. It's a free rank if you know how to write a few large guides, and confuse people with 'knowledge'.

To be honest, how it should be is the User Educators shouldn't really exist, except for those who show incredible knowledge in their field of study. A free area to write guides could remain, and it wouldn't be any different as you're not attempting to put random people into a position of 'teacher'.

Also, this thread makes little sense =/. ICBF to time line it, etc. Hope you understood my jist. (Not a suggestion, just a point. The User Education forum won't change because of the amount of content it brings in, and the SEO ratings from it.)

Damn dude, I was just in the process of writing something (slightly) similar.

I think it's also a free rank, that to a new member, would make someone seem trusted. And we all know how false trust is something we try to avoid.

    Good post.

You're not disproving what I said.

It's not hard to become a UE, because all you have to do is be good at writing. If you're convincing, and the User Educators actually vote in a non-biased way, then you'll be accepted.

    Two Criteria of User Education:

    1. Your guides must look good, by being full of pictures, content, and information pertaining to the topic.
    2. You must not be hated by a majority of the User Education team.

    That's it -.-.

Besides, I'm pointing out the fact that the people on the User Education team are in no position to be 'teaching' others based on their random knowledge. I'm not saying Robert is an idiot, but what classes him to be eligible for such?

You don't really have to be smart to be on the User Education team, you simply have to preach =/.

The reality is that we don't have anybody with a degree in the field that they write guides about, and yes, many of the guides are useless and written by people who are just trying to get a rank. However, who's to say 16 year olds don't know enough to inform other people? I've personally learned a good bit from User Education, especially the Help & Requests section and Software Specific. I think a guide written from experience can come from anyone, as long as the information is legitimate and it teaches somebody else. It's certainly disillusioning to see guides written about editing your posts on Sythe and childish pranks, but guides written about how not to get scammed, or how to use a specific program in detail, or how to get better at something taught by someone who has sufficient experience in the subject are of value, and can't necessarily be found using a quick Google search. Sure, some of our older members probably have lots of background knowledge and the UE section isn't as essential to them, but remember that most of our site is made up of newer people who aren't as versed on the internet, or life, rather. I certainly condemn anyone using their UE rank to seem like more of a trusted person in a trade, but the rank is more earned than it is used. UEs still do work that normal members don't have to do. I think it's still a viable position, IMHO

Lets put it this way. Being a UE has NOTHING to do with trades correct?

well if some stupid UE is trying to make himself look more trusted with it. it's more likely gonna be put down on the person who beleived it.

But, a lot of new people are going to believe it, they don't know any better, it's not entirely their fault.

+, User educator, just sounds trusted.

User educator does sound trusted. but in it's own spot. just like being apprentice sounds trusted. or being a guru sounds trusted.

    User Education Evaluation

I am saying that the 16 year olds shouldn't be spending their time trying to teach others, but should be spending their time trying to learn. You're given an internet in which you have infinite resources, why are you not spending more of your time learning, rather than trying to teach what you think you already know?

I am not denying that you can learn from User Education, it got me started on my own path to learning web dev, but it doesn't mean you're versed enough to have others put their trust in you for knowledge.

Your knowledge is incomplete, and therefore sharing such seems rather irrational to me.

The thing is, like I just said, the information is incomplete. Teaching someone with incomplete information is horrible, because they aren't getting the full story. Sure, we can all speculate, but being put in a position where people are supposed to trust your knowledge, and then delivering sub-par information is just as bad as scamming.

I do agree that some guides may be of some use, as the knowledge may be complete. But that's talking about maybe 1% of the guides on Sythe, if that. The solid truth is that if you're going to be teaching people something, you should know everything about it.

Then write a guide on how to Google, and leave it at that. Just because they're new to this life, doesn't mean they should be exposed to inaccurate, or incomplete information. Actually, it means the exact opposite. Starting them off on the wrong foot is never a good idea, and is incredibly unhelpful in their future.

Yes, indeed. But aren't you all? How is the rank earned? It's not hard to write a few incomplete guides, and get accepted. =/.

Well you see. Sure 16 year old kids should be learning. But lets say they come across something new. they can help others out.

lets say ur doing something and you make a mistake. you learn from your mistake. but it would be nice to tell other people also. so they dont make the same mistake. so everyone is learning but can also teach at the same time

    No you weren't.

Every point you just tried to make was ruined by your incredibly bad grammar.

UE has a big part to do with the market.

Everyone but a few apply to the UE for the rank.

Having a rank makes you look trusted by market people.

That doesn't give them the right to be seen as teachers, that just puts them in a position where they can assist their peers. Yes, exchanging information is fine, but being put into a spot where they are seen as educators is completely illogical.

What do you mean by "incomplete" information? At what point is a guide "complete"? Couldn't you speculate that there is always more to be learned about a subject, but it's good to start with as much background as you can?
