Internet Problem need good tech people.

So right now I am on my brothers laptopt to post this. My desktop's internet stoped working a couple days ago. Heres some details I am running a pirated version of xp sp3 pro (its been installed for over a year and have had no problems like this). Its using an ethernet connection from my router which is verizon fios. I had configured it about a week ago to a static I.P. too help with some port forwarding it worked fine and then all of a sudden stopped working. It said I was connect I could ping just fine but no programs could connect to the internet. It seemed to happen right after I uninstalled symatic corprate antivirus pro or something like that. I used my other two antivirus(super anti spyware and Spybot search and destroy final) to see if a virus was causing but there was no virus. So I tryed system restoring it to before i uninstalled symantic it was the same situation. I tried putting it back to dynamic ip changing the ip. And i used this computer to check my router page and it said the computers internet was "inactive" I couldn't do anything to change that it was very odd. Please help me i will love you if i can get this to work

 

People have reported SCA - symatic corprate anti-virus - to block router connections from the router to the computer that the program was installed on.

What brand is your router?

 

Its either what mu-b said or something else.

Microsoft set it so that if you're using a pirated version of windows, your computer malfunctions. This could be it. Try to format your computer and install a legitimate version of windows.

 

Unless your ISP gives you a static IP you shouldn't set one. At the moment it's probably not connecting because your IP is invalid. Go back to dynamic or update it to your current valid IP.

I really don't think thats it ive been running it for a long time with no problem but if all else fails i will do that.

1. It has nothing to do with Microsoft.

2. It has nothing to do with your static IP. If there was a IP address conflict with your router, XP would tell you.

To be honest it's most likely your virus software. People have problems like this all the time after installing programs such as AVG, symantec, etc. Reason being, these programs scan all incoming and outgoing packets and don't allow things you haven't sanctioned to get in or out. So while it may appear your connected to the internet, your browser or programs trying to connect may not be able to simply because your security software isn't allowing it. Play around with your settings and exceptions until it works. If you want to find out

 

alright Il try that also it says windows cant start windows firewall service or something

 

Windows XP's firewall turns off when it detects a third party firewall, that's normal. Let us know if you get things worked out.
