I am english, and can speak a little bit of German... not fluent, infact far from fluent...

im a slow learner, and i only know the basics after 4 years of learning it at high school. I will never be able to learn it fluent, because it has no use for me. this may seem ignorant, but its true..

Taiwanese and Mandarin are completely different.

The only Chinese dialect Taiwanese sounds similar to is Fukienese, as far as I know. When my mom speaks Taiwanese to her family over the phone, I can't understand a word.

To whoever asked what my family speaks to me at home, they speak both English and Mandarin to me. If they don't want me to understand what they're saying, they'll speak Taiwanese, because I don't know it at all x]

Really? I have a group of Taiwanese friends, yet it sounds more similar to Mandarin that Fukienese.

Fukienese is Fook Geen Wai in Cantonese right?

I can speak spanish, fluently. I can also say many french expressions. Besides that, I can say one or two sentences in Japanese, two words in Mandarin, and that's it.

I see no reason in learning a new language while I'm still in high school. I don't plan on doing any world traveling until after college. I've taken Spanish 1 and 2, but I'm far from fluent. I'm taking German in college and I also want to become fluent in Spanish as well.

Off-topic: Holy fuck this thread is old.

Well my family is Greek so I understand and can speak very little of that, currently signed up for my third year of Latin but nobody speaks that except the pope so I'm not sure if that counts, and I know a little Spanish from 7th grade. So 3 other languages?

I can speak Spanish fairly fluently. I don't know every word or much of the slang, but I can carry out a conversation.

I'm in the process of learning German. I've been learning it for about 3 years now, so I'm okay.

    I took Spanish 1 and 2
I know Hebrew and English fluently.
Japanese is difficult but would be really great to know. (but then again there's always that problem of you won't remember a language if you don't actually use it, so I guess I could move to Japan? Still I have no idea what I want to do with my life.)
