A new, 2nd gen, 16 gig Ipod touch sells for about $300 + tax. Although I will be selling for less, it will DEFINITELY not be for $40.

A way to find out how many microsoft points you have is to go on your xbox and redeem the code but don't confirm it after you enter it.

It will say something like are you sure you want to redeem ____ microsoft points.

This works with xbox live time, so you can tell if it's a 1 month, 12 month, etc.. I'm not sure if it works with MSP but it's the same maker so it most likely will.
