Dang, i guess they weren't joking.

    11th June 2009 - Macro-detection systems update

It’s been a while since we updated you on what we are doing to prevent cheating in RuneScape, and particularly to catch and ban macroers, so here’s what’s currently going on:

You’ve probably already noticed while playing the game that there has been a lot less macroing going on over the last year, as we’ve been getting more effective at preventing it. Gone are the days where every tree has an accompanying crowd of bots. However, we’re not resting on our laurels, and in fact we have just strengthened our macro-detection systems yet again. We are about to ban several thousand more accounts for macroing. We have reviewed all the macro programs available, and there are none we cannot detect.

These days we are taking a zero-tolerance approach to macroing. Players caught for macroing don’t receive a warning, or a chance to appeal, or even a last-chance appeal - they are just permanently banned. Don’t make the mistake of believing that we’ll be soft, and that you can get away with it until you are warned. You can’t. Don’t risk your account. By the time you realize you’ve been caught it will be far too late.

Also, high-level and members’ accounts are NOT immune, or given an extra chance. One of the reasons for our RWT changes was precisely so players couldn’t effectively macro on low–level, throwaway accounts to gain wealth. This means they were tempted to macro on their high–level, main accounts instead, which plays straight into our hands as our existing anti-macro systems catch and ban them! This has proven very effective; so far this month we have already banned over 500 high-level accounts with skills in the 80s and 90s. Don’t make your account one of them.

This is a warning to players that would have otherwise been sucked in by the misinformation spread by cheating communities; don’t do it, or you will lose your hard-earned account.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

6 hours of just using simple GhostMouse to drop my fish from barbarian rod fishing (not AFK or anything, i was still talking with people and things of that nature), and BOOM 2 week ban for macro'ing.

Great timing too, during the summer. OUCH...

I honestly cannot comprehend how they picked up on this considering that ghost mouse is very inconsitant and innacurate to the point where, every time I run the thing to drop my fish, it always misses one or two at random. So how they picked up on this with no one around or anything of that nature is beyond me.

Just a word of caution to anyone that considers full out auto'ing. I guess I was spared from the no tolerance policy because it wasn't outright autoing, just a program to drop my fish.

You used ghostmouse...it makes the same movement over and over, its not hard to catch on if its clicking on the same place for 6 hours.

Use something worth getting banned over like RSbot.

yea ghostmouse,is very repeative and constantly uses the same movement.

maybe download a much more efficient "mouse click" bot

    Madhacker14:

*facepalm* It's not the same, if it was, it would produce the same results every time.

Don't be naive, I wasn't doing it for 6 straight hours, I was just using it to drop my fish, otherwise I was just fishing and doing everything else on my own, not to mention the frequent world changes to go to W2 GE, and back and fourth to places.

Lastly, I don't like to auto, that defeats the purpose of the game, it's not fun and I don't want to risk my main, I also didn't auto like most people that leave it on and just go to school or something like that. I didn't think that simply dropping fish would warrant something severe as this but anyway. You miss the point of this thread, I say just a word of caution for those looking to full out auto in the future.

SO please next time try to at least understand what you read, and refrain from lame-brain comments like "Use something worth getting banned over like RSbot". Not only does that show you didn't get the post, but also that statement in of itself is just ridiculous. NOTHING other than something that will fortify your name in the record books or history of RS is worth getting banned over for.

Dude you got lucky. Most bans are permanent. I haven't seen a 2 week ban yet :\

Be careful. There might've been some suspicious activity like you would type when the mouse clicks (which is pretty damn hard to do).

Trust me it's not as constant as you think, try it yourself and you'll know what I mean.

I also used it for that reason because it wasn't consistent as perfectly consistent bots. When you use a bot it's the exact clicks. I say this because there is only so much variation you can provide for a simple dropping action. Unless you want to spend time creating 50+ or 100+ different time intervals between mouse clicks, which wouldn't help anyway, when they see at the speed you drop the items.

Yah I do consider myself quite lucky that I didn't get a full out ban, but truth be told the offense under the offense list is "Minor Macroing", and I guess factors like be not being AFK, a relatively high level, and a very old time player saved me by a thread.

And your also right on when you said they might have seen suspicious activity, but what I can't figure is out how were they able to find me out of 100k+ people on at a single time during day time. It makes you wonder is this macro detection really that well that it monitors accounts on an individual level?

I do believe that they give light punishments when the macro program you use is not Rsbot. The macro update they did had the most impact and was targeted more so on the RsBot program.

Yes I want to see this too.

So far I've had 2 suicide accounts banned from several day botting runs. I don't think they really did too much to the system except make it a little more harsh. They may have just upgraded the automated report handler.

SwiftSeller, that's actually a pretty good idea, but wouldn't it mess up the other 2 patterns running though?

Ghost mouse is fail. If you used a good macro, you would not be banned. Jagex is saying this utter bullshit lie to scare people so they don't bot because they are slowly losing the macroing war... Plus, botters are becoming much more stealthy and there is less of them because you can not trade the GP onto a main account anymore. Don't listen to their bullshit.
