Click it or ticket man.. I'm not too sure how anyone could argue against this law... I even agree with the law against using a cell/texting while driving.. and I do it all the time. So I know how distracting it can be..

It's not so distracting. I suppose it is if you're agitated or something. But most of the time, you're not.

But the seatbelt laws are a joke in my country. They aren't really enforced well. They implemented it around january but haven't done anything about it.

Like seriously, is wearing a steatbelt really THAT much of a hassle?
It saves lives, and it's proven... so it's just a small price to pay in the form of a little 'discomfort', if you could even call it that...

Well, there are pros and cons to wearing seatbeats, 99% pros. The only con to it, is if its around your neck and you get in a wreck, it could strangle you or something.

But, you'd have more of a chance dieing when flying through the windshield and hitting the road. So, yeah, wear a seatbelt, no matter what age.

Seat belt laws are to keep the car from going out of control if the driver gets hit their hands come off of the steering wheel.

    It's to protect others mainly.

I'm not disputing the effectiveness of the seatbelt. Yes, it's a good idea to wear them. Yes, the Government owns the roads. That's why I said it wasn't a very good question.

The question I wanted to ask was this: Is it moral for the Government to protect people from themselves? If you want to do something like not wear a seatbelt, kill yourself, etc, do you believe the Government has a right to punish you for not taking care of yourself?

Well I parshly agree on what your saying, If an adult choose not to use a seatbelt and knows the dangers of not wearing one then why issue out a ticket?

But A seatbelt can make a big difference in saving your life if you were to get into an accident.

So I don't think it's right for the goverment to punish you for not protecting yourself.

Actually, there is some truth to what you're saying. The seatbelt is supposed to rest on your hip bones. If it goes across your stomach it can push your intestines upward and compress your lungs so you can't breathe. This has happened.

Don't use that as an excuse to not wear a seatbelt though, just make sure you use it properly.

How does a seatbelt protect another person? So they suddenly stop the car from going out of control?

They allow you to remain in control of the car in a potential accident situation.

I don't care how many lives it saves, you people are missing the point here: is it right to have a law that punishes you for carelessness for your own safety? They might as well give you a ticket for not looking both ways before crossing the street.

Not looking both ways could end up in a car swerving out the way of you and hitting someone else in a possible fatal crash. Others safety.

You're the one missing the point. I don't care the slightest about your safety. This is about you putting other people in potential danger. Let's say you're in the backseat of a car, and you're not wearing your seatbelt. If you crash you'll smash into the seat in front of you, and harm the one sitting in it, to name one example.

Guess the car should of hit the guy then. They teach you in driving courses not to swerve, as it just makes it much worse.

If the seat is not faulty, and you slam into the back of it the seats not going anywhere. Its the person's responsibility to wear the seatbelt, and if they choose not to they have to face the consequences.

Kind of hard to drive the car from the back, effectively.

So you agree with being fined every time you don't look both ways before crossing the street... wow.
