Xombi's Guide to an open NAT

This guide will, in detail, describe how to open your NAT setting for Xbox Live.

*Note - This may not work on your router. I used an Linksys router, so this guide may only work for Linksys routers.

*This guide is all my works, I took all of the pictures and wrote every word.

How to tell if your NAT is closed

This should be the simplest way, as it's the way I used. NAT is most likely to show problems when playing the Xbox 360 game "Halo 3". When your NAT is set to strict or moderate, it limits the players you may play with to only the people that have the same settings as you. As you can imagine, this can make it slow to find a game. You can see if your NAT is closed whenever you start a game of Matchmaking in Halo 3 and a message pops up letting you know that you have NAT problems.

    What to do

I'll do this in steps with pictures to help.

Step One - Open up nearly any tap on your computer such as My Documents, My pictures, My Computer; anything of that nature and type in 192.168.1.1 (I also hear that 192.168.2.1 is required sometimes) to the address bar.

Step Two - You should be asked for a username and password. If you have not changed them before, then they should be the default of username:admin Password:admin. If you have changed them, then input your own details.

Step Three - You should be at your router configuration screen. Click 'Applications and Gaming'. Click on the 'port forwarding' tab. Then, input the data I have in my picture:

    Step Four - Save changes

You should now have an open NAT setting for your Xbox 360 :D Enjoy.

That isn't even going to work because the 192.168.1.140 isn't the same for everyone, you'll need to go to command prompt and type in ipconfig, I have a whole guide on this search it :).

For a Linksys router, it is always the same 192.168.1.1
