k I know this will never be made but it would be super dope if Sythe had a discord bot which was able to act as an api to post Forum actions

I'm registered with Sythebot using my token. Because of this, I can go to any server who has this bot and type something like #vouch buy07 bought 10000m thanks. Then Sythebot who’s already authenticated me via unique id can send some API request to sythe and post for me on his buy07 thread and/or vouch thread.

i can write it in exchange for $10,000 donator status

this could safely automate PMs, bumps, vouches, tons of different shit without ever having to leave discord

You can use webscrapers to do that and have your discord bot connected to a different API whereas that API acts as the proxy/middleware.

 

Yah lol that's very easy to do, what's not easy as a 3rd party is having a simple to sign up centralized system where users have their data protected. The idea is that anyone can easily use this product with very little setup. Why would this make sense as a single-user product

 

Every single user has a session/jwt(e?) that could be used for a specific period of time until he's required to re-login and re-enter his 2FA, and could be used on a proxy server (proxy as in terms of middleware) to do any CRUD services while passing them through the headers knowing his permissions (claims).
On normal SaaS (Software as a Service) websites, people usually pass their API keys to be able to get specific entities/execute jobs, in our case, passing session credentials/jwt & the API key with the specific message and URL link (thread) should be sufficient, I might be wrong though, but afaik Sythe's current XenForo version doesn't support REST API and still it's do-able as it was done previously on several platform that I know.

There are plenty of solutions, it just depends on the implementation, whether it's straight forward (request: bot -> sythe, response: sythe -> bot) or using proxy server (request: bot -> proxy/middlware -> sythe, response: sythe -> proxy/middleware -> bot)

 

You can't give an API to developers with post/PM perms it's a huge security risk, and no one will use it if you have to give a 3rd party your token/cookie/creds to sign up. Only works as a 1st party service, which only makes sense if there's an increased convenience factor ie Discord integration.

 

Correct, that's the approach I am saying, everything is still do-able/feasible though.

 

ya it's totally not needed but it'd be super dope, honestly not much work to implement, and sythe is so deeply integrated with discord at this point that it might not be a bad idea to make some qol features

 

This currently isn't possible unless you all want to supply me with your username, password, and 2FA. If this gets accepted I can ask Richard if he can supply me with an API though.

Closing due to this. If Richard wants to take this on later so I can access an API without your credentials then I'll gladly implement it later.
