China Limits Use of Gamers Online Currency

In a recent move, the Chinese government has ruled that it will control the real world money traded for virtual game currencies like WoW. This obviously has huge implications, especially for gold farmers. The Chinese goverment plans to halt the exchange of items for virtual currency as well. The real world market for virtual currency is estimated at 2 Billion USD. The reason cited is that the government fears that RWT has implications on the real economy. Sythe user will undoubtedly be interested, or ought to be.

How rude and insensitive can you be? These gold farmers work for less than hundreds of dollars to provide food and shelter for themselves or family. They don't do it for fun, it's their job.

People don't work for gold companies because they want to... It's the only work they can find. What kind of person would be like, "Oh even though I can make more money elsewhere, I'll go work in a gold company all day getting yelled at by Americans." o_O

I dont think you need to worry about that atleast for a while , because all the government has the power to do is to shut down the farming sites associated with the major internet providers while most of the farming occurs with smaller, private sites that are harder to detect and shut down. I would imagine there are thousands of farming agencies. Also Im wondering how much of the RWT is for runescape, i hear its mainly WoW farming. I thought Korea was the main RS farmer but I could be wrong.

Actually guys, sweatshops offer better working conditions than the other jobs in China. The alternative to sitting in front of a computer pressing a button is plowing crops in the field under the burning sun. I think the Chinese government is trying to get people to do actual work that will put products into the market, but they are going about it the wrong way. All they need to do is raise the salary of factory workers and field workers and people will flock to those jobs and the economy will be happy. But no, stupid Chinese government wants to take the cheap way out.

I don't know how this really affects their economy it seems like their government believes it's more of a social problem than anything. But yea, once again communism prevails.
