Westboro Baptist Church is an organisation based in Topeka, Kansas, headed by minister Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. and notorious for running godhatesfags.com and other websites expressing its condemnation of various groups, (see "WBC Websites" below). Although its members identify themselves as Baptists, the church is not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations (however, there are numerous independent Baptist churches throughout the United States that are unaffiliated with such groups). The church describes itself as following Primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles, though it has been accused by others of Hyper-Calvinism.[1]

The group bases much of its work around the belief that "God hates fags", (its best known slogan and the address of its primary website), and expresses the opinion that nearly all tragedy in the world is somehow linked to homosexuality, (specifically society's increasing tolerance and acceptance of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people), whom they believe God hates above all other kinds of sinners.[2]

The organization has been deemed a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.[3] Not only is Westboro opposed by supporters of gay rights, but the vast majority of Christian groups (even those who agree with Westboro that homosexuality is a sin) oppose Westboro's theology and practice, believing it to be incompatible with traditional Christian teachings.[4]"

What do you think about this group personally?
Do you think there protests at soldiers funereals are right? (yes they do protest at soldiers funereals saying things like "thank god for dead soldiers" ect.)
Do you believe some of the things they say why or why not?

Anything you have to say about them personally (shirley phelps has been in the spotlight numerous times and its actually hilarious to me) or as a group should be said here and please use logic and back up your answers with reasons and explanations

 

The Christian god does infact "hate fags". It's in the Bible. At least they practice it, as opposed to the watered-out mainstream church nowadays.

 

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."1

Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."


Tell me how anyone can accept homosexuals and call themselves Christian.

They are entitled to their opinions no matter how skewed the beliefs may be. I'm not one of those people who think they should be dragged off by men in black and shot.

It's also worth noting this 'church' is really only in it for the publicity. If you've ever attended one of their events you'll see they only scream, "God loves dead soldiers", etc when the media is present. Otherwise the church members generally maintain silence.

 

First, your quote of John 13:34-35 is taken completely out of context, as usual. If you read it in context it is clear that Jesus is telling his disciples, no more than 12 people, to love one another. How is this relevant?

Furthermore, how can that quote, even if it wasn't grossly out of context, give Christians a valid reason to dismiss the rest of the Bible? It isn't just homosexuality. There's a seemingly endless list of principles in the Bible, that modern Christians feel they can openly ignore. And if anyone questions this, there's always good ol' John 13.

Anyway, these people look more like they're just hungry for attention than anything else.

Its against our rules in the bible. So we can't be gay or anything. But personally, its alright with me. I don't care who's gay. I don't care who's a lesbian. All humans are equal to me.

 

Not enough people have been talking about their other shit. Watch that video and see how messed up they are. "Thank god for dead soldiers" "Thank god for I.E.D.s" "Thank god for AIDS" etc.

People that risk their lives for the security of this country get disrespected like this. These people cause grief to the families of dead soldiers. Her father referred to the Holocaust as minuscule, and called Jews inferior. She thanks god for "every righteous judgment he makes."

This psycho needs to be put it an institution.

God loves all. He just hates sin. Those people are the most hypocritical, and surely will burn in hell for their blasphemy and judging without purpose. If I remember right, only God can judge.

 

Read the bible with an open mind, and you'll see just how un-equal humans are according to Christianity.

 

Ignorance like this makes me happy I live in a semi-secular nation.
