Windows 7

Hey guys. As some of you already know, Microsoft is releasing Windows 7 this year.

Right now they have a special deal: $50 for Home Premium if you pre-order by July 11, 2009.

Are you going to buy it? I'm buying two copies because this sale is limited time, and in my opinion Windows 7 is better than both Vista (definitely) and XP.

What do you think of it? Like the look? Like the new features?

Didn't they just release vista last year?

 

Windows 7 is different from Vista, plus everyone hated vista, at least windows is thinking smart and coming out with a better operating system.

 

I have a mac. I'll definitely switch over to windows 7 if i decide to switch over.

 

I'd prefer to pay $50 to get a legit version.

 

I'm probably gonna pre-order a copy if it's only 50 dollars. Might order a couple because after it's released I bet Windows 7 will be more than 50 dollars.

Anyways, I haven't tested it at all, but honestly I highly doubt it's better than XP. XP is one of the best operating systems out there, and absolutely the best Microsoft has come up with.

 

Correction: People who know next to nothing about computers all hated Vista because it was different to what they were used to. There are no major performance differences between Windows XP and Windows Vista, and you'd be a fool to say there is. Developers such as myself practically love it when you compare it to XP.

Anyway, I don't really feel like buying it. I'll probably end up going full-time Linux sooner or later (I'm thinking Gentoo).

Damn you Dave and your crazy computer skills. I like it simple and xp was good enough for me.

 

I've been using it for a month or so. Works great, looks great, and the usability improvements are staggering. The new taskbar is a godsend for people like me that often have 30+ applications open and 20+ explorer windows.

 

i personally hate vista even though i have it It takes to much memory because I PC game. will windows 7 take more memory up?

 

Pretty sure it takes less. More is recommended though.

I suggest you look in to SuperFetch.

Vista and Windows 7 take the approach that "Unused RAM is wasted RAM", therefore Vista has a feature called SuperFetch. SuperFetch preloads the data for commonly used applications in to your RAM on startup, allowing for faster overall execution time because you won't have to load as much.

Sure, you might note a slightly slower load-time for your precious games, but there is no other performance impact, and I can honestly say any game I've played on Vista as opposed to XP actually runs smoother on Vista. Not to mention DirectX 10 on Vista is superior to DirectX 9 on XP, if you're a quality freak like me. In terms of a gaming operating system, Vista is better than XP. well windows vista is alright right now 4 me. i mite get 7 if its cheap enuf.

I disagree, XP was the simplest version, but it was also the ugliest and lacked features. It ran a lot smoother on most systems, but as i said, that's because of it lacking. Vista is a resource hog, yeah, but Vista is a dream if you have a decent enough machine. People were just mad because they tried putting vista on a 2ghz 512mb ram 64mb graphics card PC and failed.

 

True. I can't stand Vista on anything below 2GB RAM.
